I got too bored to go on and read the second page, but I don't think this was said in the first page.

Anyways, I heard some people say that while SEGA's number of copies sold will go up, the amount of money that they will get won't go up. I agree with that statement, no argument here. However, I think that they aren't really looking at the money, it's the number of copies sold.

VC has made great games over and over, yet nobody has been seeing it yet, they've been buying Madden. Now, here, this will, as other people said, give more customers the chance to see the other game for a $30 difference. If they like the game, then they will look at it next year. That way, more sales, and Take-Two can raise the price again.

Now the DOWNSIDE is if people all of the sudden get mad because they re-raise the price again. In some terms, that sounds unfair, but when a company/athlete/website gets that sort of reputation, they probably need to maintain it to stay liked. For instance, look at how hot Pedro Feliz and Miguel Cabrera are right now for baseball. They are so liked, they keep a reputation as good players after being nobodies from the minors. NOW, if they start sucking, they will now be recognized as KNOWN poor players from the minors.

As that analogies go, it can happen to SEGA. The question is, what does Take-Two planning on doing next year, and how will what they do affect the outcome of the number of sales, and the money that they get?

the difference is i believe they're banking on what GT said. they feel their gameplay and graphics are so realistic that it makes you look at madden as a joke after playing ESPN. if they're right then next year if you see the two games at the same price you'll still buy ESPN. if you think they're at least equal then you"ll try to buy both

Hopefully, what will happen is ESPN releases at $19.99, and is a killer game. Madden...caught by the sucker punch, releases next year with a brand new engine, and killer gameplay of its own. ESPN matches, we'll all out $100 bucks, but we all get 2 great NFL football games, instead of a couple of $50 updates. Great ESPN this year should = Great Madden and Great ESPN next year, and then we all win.

Exactly, Sega just needed to get the game into peoples homes, once more people start playing it they will realize its a quality game.

If Sega wants to be on the same level of sales as Madden it will take a few years to get there. They just have to get more customers on board and build their fan base.

Either way its good news for gamers.

Competition = Better games.

as for thinking the game sucks because it is cheap, the normal person doesnt always think that way. if you buy it and it sucks, then i lost $20. if it is great, then you got a steal. $20 is not much to most people.

Re: How will the (apparent) ESPN price drop affect Madden?

I love this! Now that ESPN is selling for $20, you know that the Madden team is going to get all kinds of questions along the lines of "Given the fact that your competitor is selling its game at $20, what improvements have been made to justify your game selling for $30 more?"

I like Jeremy Strauser, but I must admit that I am looking forward to seeing his responses to this tough line-of-questioning.

Take Two has to have something to do with this. They are really good at getting people hyped for games. Now, they will both generate hype for ESPN and put heat on EA to really justify its "a few tweaks, another $50" tactic that it has used year-in-and-year-out.

I have never been convinced that the types of innovations that are made from year-to-year justify another $50 out of my pocket, even though I eagerly buy sports games every year. I like the fact that these companies face pressure to prove that their products are worth another $50.

This was the smartest thing VC has ever done. If it was Take Two's idea, then bravo Take Two! This really puts the heat on Madden now. How in the world are they going to justify a $50 price tag for their game, when a similar quality game (if not a bit better in some areas) is out for only $20??

EA will have to respond with a price cut of their own, I think...

I don't think EA can lower their price with that collector's edition selling at $60. Their hands are tied b/c of that. I don't think they need to lower it anyways--it's still gonna fly off the shelf.
