Im not missing anything, they had to cut prices to sell there product thats why they sold more, when a $50 game out sells another game at $20 if it's Madden or not trust me it will hurt then. Now they can never bring the sale of that game up to $50 ever agin in my eyes cause if they do they are doomed bigtime. They will never cut into Maddens sales get that in your head, MADDEN SOLD MORE COPIES IN THERE ONE WEEK RELEASE THEN EVERY IN A WEEK OF RELEASE at $50. Do you know what that means, if MADDEN next year does somthing great with there graphics SEAG/Could very Kiss the @$$ good bye. Please don't give me that well Sega wanted to do this for this and that because next year the will cut into madden sales....NO....NEVER it won't happen. You obviously don't understand market share.

Last year total sales for pro football games was about 4.4 million. Of that, Madden sold 4 million or about 91% of the total pro games sold.

This year, so far total sales for pro football games has been 2.15 million. Of that, Madden sold 1.35 million or about 63% of the total pro games sold. Thus, just based on numbers, sega has gained almost 30% market share over last year.

As for the price. The MSRP price really has nothing to do with profit margin. It comes down to what EA sells the game to the EBs/Gamestops etc... and I am sure that it is not 49.99. I would venture to guess that EA is making less then 20 dollars more per game then sega. You also have to take into account development cost, licensing, marketing for the game etc.. Maybe Segas development/distribution cost are much less then EA so they can still make close to the same profit with the reduced price.

I don't think you can quote the numbers the same way you are doing, b/c you're not taking into effect the % of "overlap." That makes a BIG difference when talking about market share, b/c in that case neither has an advantage.

I know you're basing it on total numbers of units sold, but you can't do that when there is overlap. For many people, they can purchase both, as I have. (Side note: you're also forgetting the numbers owned by NCAA Football 2005)

No one has the number as to just how many "individuals" own both games, as compared to other years. Until you can get that stat, you can't properly ascertain anything, b/c these "individuals" will make the difference next year.

Madden been out one week, ESPN close to a month, don;t compare the market share now, wait like 3 months then come back and talk to me. SO if EA is paying for all that you explain, what do you think SEAG is doing, so when SEGA is done playing like EA does they would left with close to nothing. Your not seeing the point, not me you.



I don't know if you work in a Sharing/Market atmosphere, but if you do. no offence are you selling pens, you can't compare pens to selling videogames.

Granted if you compare all the sales for Madden and eSPn you have to remember that ESPn is not available for Pc or gamecube.Gamecube it's probably irrelevant cause it's going downhill,but for the PC i'd bet that a decent portion of those sales were for PC gaming.
