Re: Madden 12: CPU -vs- CPU Sliders

First 5 games of testing. Basically what I'm trying to do is to get close to NFL averages in a 5 game test, then run a 16 game test to confirm.

Here is the settings for test 1.

    Skill Level (Only CPU Matters)
    QB Accuracy: 15
    Pass Blocking: 100
    WR Catching: 48
    Broken Tackles: 0
    Run Blocking: 40
    Fumbles: 26
    PD Reaction Time: 20
    Interceptions : 15
    Pass Rush: 70
    RD Reaction Time: 20
    Block Shedding: 5
    Tackling: 40

    Spectate AVG/NFL AVG
    Run Attempts: 26.0/27.5
    Run Yards: 99.7/116.1
    Run AVG: 3.8/4.2
    Pass Att: 29.1/34.1
    Pass Comp: 18.0/20.4
    Pass Comp %: 61.9/59.8
    Pass Yards: 216.2/212.0
    Interceptions: 1.9/1.6
    Sacks: 3.6/2.3
    Total Yards: 315.9/328.0
    Penalties: 3.6
    Plays: 58.7/61.4
    Points: 23.6/20.8

    Outcome:
    1. I wanted to increase run yards and avg, so I upped both break tackle and run blocking by 1.
    2. I wanted to reduce interceptions, so I reduced interceptions down to 5 from 15.
    3. I wanted to reduce sacks, so I reduced pass rushing from 70 to 50.

I'm in my 4th game of test 2 and will post those results tonight, but it's looking very promising so far.

Thanks for this! I will try it out. I am one of the few, like you, that likes spectate mode/cpu vs cpu mode. Very, very few of us in this minority!

Awesome. Appreciate any insight you may have or if anything stands out to you.

Everything seems to falling in place with test 2, except sacks. I will need to reduce it further for test 3. I went from 70 to 50 on pass rushing and it has only decreased a very small number. Thinking maybe a setting of 25 for test 3.

Vick had a monster game: 15 of 19 passing and rushed for 94 yards.........but took 6 sacks....

Second set of 5 games of testing.

Here is the settings for test 2.

            Skill Level (Only CPU Matters)
            QB Accuracy: 15
            Pass Blocking: 100
            WR Catching: 48
            Broken Tackles: 1
            Run Blocking: 41
            Fumbles: 26
            PD Reaction Time: 20
            Interceptions : 15
            Pass Rush: 50
            RD Reaction Time: 20
            Block Shedding: 5
            Tackling: 40

            Spectate AVG/NFL AVG
            Run Attempts: 30.3/27.5
            Run Yards: 130.6/116.1
            Run AVG: 4.3/4.2
            Pass Att: 26.0/34.1
            Pass Comp: 15.1/20.4
            Pass Comp %: 58.1/59.8
            Pass Yards: 209.9/212.0
            Interceptions: 1.7/1.6
            Sacks: 3.0/2.3
            Total Yards: 340.5/328.0
            Penalties: 3.3
            Plays: 59.3/61.4
            Points: 24.5/20.8

            Outcome:
            1. I wanted to increase run yards and avg, so I upped both break tackle and run blocking by 1. Nearly perfect, expect the teams ran about 5 carries more a game which pushed everything else off a bit. But it's near perfect, just gonna do a minor tweak for set 3.

            2. I wanted to reduce interceptions, so I reduced interceptions down to 5 from 15. Getting real close on this on now.

            3. I wanted to reduce sacks, so I reduced pass rushing from 70 to 50. Sacks went down, but more reducing is need is set 3.

I think test 3 may be it, I'm reducing interception to 3, pass blocking to 40 and pass rushing to 25.

Third set of games for testing. Did 6 games this time to complete week 1.

Here is the settings for test 3.

              Skill Level (Only CPU Matters)
              QB Accuracy: 15
              Pass Blocking: 100
              WR Catching: 48
              Broken Tackles: 1
              Run Blocking: 40
              Fumbles: 26
              PD Reaction Time: 20
              Interceptions : 3
              Pass Rush: 25
              RD Reaction Time: 20
              Block Shedding: 5
              Tackling: 40

              Spectate AVG/NFL AVG
              Run Attempts: 26.3/27.5
              Run Yards: 108.1/116.1
              Run AVG: 4.1/4.2
              Pass Att: 30.6/34.1
              Pass Comp: 18.0/20.4
              Pass Comp %: 58.9/59.8
              Pass Yards: 206.9/212.0
              Interceptions: 1.8/1.6
              Sacks: 3.0/2.3
              Total Yards: 315.0/328.0
              Penalties: 2.3
              Plays: 59.8/61.4
              Points: 20.6/20.8

              Outcome:
              1. I wanted to increase run yards and avg, so I upped both break tackle and run blocking by 1. Nearly perfect, expect the teams ran about 5 carries more a game which pushed everything else off a bit. But it's near perfect, just gonna do a minor tweak for set 3. It's completed now, settings will remain.

              2. I wanted to reduce interceptions, so I reduced interceptions down to 5 from 15. Getting real close on this on now. Still seeing too many interceptions, will drop to zero for next set.

              3. I wanted to reduce sacks, so I reduced pass rushing from 70 to 50. Sacks went down, but more reducing is need is set 3.Still seeing too many sacks, will drop to zero for next set. Scrambling QBs kill this, as they take way too many sacks.

Test 4 hopefully is the final test. I'll be running a full 16 games this week, so it will take some time before I can post the results.

How are you setting up games? You using play now? You using one controller or two? You putting controller in middle at beginning or picking a team and kicking off then pausing and moving to center? Please describe how you are setting up your games. Thank you

These are done in franchise mode.

I put the controller in the middle and then select "spectate"

Have 2 games left. Still hasn't lowered sacks no or picks really, thats with those sliders at 0.

I'm wondering if sliders really do anything?

Absolutely wonder that myself. I swear the game has a predetermined pattern or map that will play out no matter what the sliders are set to. For example. I've set some sliders and started playing games and about halftime I restart it and reset sliders and get the same basic game. Not exactly the same, but the same pattern. I've noticed this repeatedly. I've even set sliders, played almost a full game, quit and reset sliders and play the game again...rinse and repeat and no matter what, I get the same basic game. Not the exact same game but one very similar. Like my play is a run for 9 yards. Then a pass for 20, then a turnover. If I quit game and reset sliders I will get the same thing (but not quite exactly) for the next 3 or 4 games. Strange. I think the games are sort of pre-determined. Am I alone in this?

You know what, I tested it this morning and I'm fairly certainly that most of the sliders mean very little.

I reset all the sliders to 0, except penalties. Nearly the same average stats. Only difference is penalties, which was a whopping 28 combined. SO I guess making everything zero, dumbed up the players but they played to the same statisical level.

I'm very frustrated and thinking of just going back to Head Coach 09. The best Football simulation for Madden I have played in 04. But that was on the PC.

There was a thread last year about you setting both user and cpu sliders the same. Then put controller on one team, do the coin toss and once the ball is kicked off and in the air, pause the game and put it in the center then. This then was found to use the sliders more. That is why I asked if you put your controller in center at the beginning or after kickoff. You may want to give it a try.
