Re: OhMrHanky's "Let the Players Play" Sliders. Online as RATINGSDICTATEPLAY

I've decided to create an alternate set to these sliders to get a little more defense out of the game. Scoring does feel a little easy, for both cpu and me. I'm going to tweak/play with the penalty sliders now, and see if I can get penalties to come out in the game and based on other slider gurus' research, I'm going to cater them towards the defense. My first iteration of this has been somewhat comical. I'm cranking the offsides to 70 and false start to 60 to offer the possibility of these penalties occurring. Based on others' research, I am setting the offsides higher because this supposedly gives the dline a quicker jump. I am hoping this gives a better pass rush and/or greater run stopping ability. The most comical part of what I've tried so far is the Facemask penalty. I've heard that this increases the violence of the hits, so I thought I'd crank it up to 75. Haha, yeah, more violent hits, and through 2 quarters of play, I've had 12 Facemask penalties called! Yes, Football is a violent sport, kids. Don't try this at home. So, that will definitely be lowered, but was interesting to see the facemask animation and horse collar tackles that occur with this rating up. I'm going to knock it down to 65 for next game, see what happens, along with a lot of other tweaks. With those Offsides/False Start settings, I have yet to see an offsides or false start, but the animation of a Dlineman jumping happens quite frequently, perhaps too frequently, so I may turn these down a little. It's nice to see the Dlineman ready to go, but not possibly jumping on every snap.

Just finished the game. Had an offsides and a false start. Overall, I had 14 penalties for 150 yds and the cpu had 12 for 109. haha

I know I’m coming to the party late, but since this was the last year of importing from NCAA, I want to stick with this version—and thankfully, now I think it can be decent enough to stick with, using these sliders.

I’ve been reading threads on this site for years, but this is the first thread I’ve ever been compelled to post on—for two reasons:

1) First and foremost, massive props to you, OhMrHanky! After well over a hundred hours of meticulous testing, I was about to give up on this clunker.

2) This thread ends with you testing an alternative set for better defense (I’m most interested in improving the DLine and pass rush). Would you please post the final set you settled on and any last bit of insight you can offer?

I’d be willing to bet there are a lot of other people like me, who plan on sticking with this version until the NCAA works out a new player compensation agreement.

Thanks again!

I've tried countless sliders and still can't find anything that plays remotely realistic. It just seems that some sliders are broken or affect different aspects of the game. I can't find anything that makes players play to their ratings. It's like the ratings are also broke and everyone basically plays the same.

I've yet to try out the original sliders. I was about to try later today until I read the last few posts saying that there was going to be some changes made due to no defense and crazy high scoring games. It looks like now that he is going in the opposite direction by adding penalties BACK into the game, so not sure what is really going on.

All I know is that I am about to give up on this broken product unless I can find some sort of sliders that made the game play realistically - more so stats driven. I am a coach mode players, so you'd think a slider set would be relatively easy to nail down. Nope.
