Like everyone else I love to play a franchise with rosters that are realistic to the NFL but, sometimes I like to venture outside what the NFL does. Usually what I do is create myself in NCAA and play a 4 year dynasty with either Penn St., Florida St., Miami, California or Oregon St. The next thing I do is select what position my created player is going to play. I either choose QB or WR for offense and for defense I choose CB, FS or SS. If my created player is a WR or CB I use them as a KR/PR as well. My player's number is usually 9 but, I adjust it as needed depending on my teams roster. I never add myself to the Steelers but, if I do a fantasy draft or am doing a complete roster overhaul then I'll add myself to whatever team I'm playing as and if my created player gets drafted by another team then I put together some kind of trade to bring him to my team. I know I'm not the only person that does this so I'm curious to see what else does this and how they do it. I'm also interested in if they played football in high school, college or semi-pro as well and if the player they created plays the same positions they did.

Creating Yourself
First off I wasn't quite sure what to title this thread so sorry if it becomes misleading to some of the OS viewers. What I want to know is how many of you hardcore Madden gamers create yourself and put yourself into the game and play with your created player ? Do you put yourself on your favorite team ? What position do you play and what number do you opt to wear if you do ? I know this is all available in superstar mode but, personally superstar mode doesn't quite do it for me because I can't call the plays and the camera angles are just terrible.

Re: Creating Yourself
Re: Creating Yourself
Hi Aftershock,
I do create myself, and put my created player in the game. However, I have rules in which I follow when doing this. The rules are as follows...
1. No lying- Use exact height, weight, speed, and strength from when I played.
2. No Player Hating- This means that I can not get a starting job over a better player. If the starter is better than me, then I play backup. If the backup is better than me, then I play third string.
3. No Stat Piling- This means I call the plays the same way I nornally would, not going out of my way to inflate my own stats. Now, if I'm having a good game and I'm close to some sort of record then fine...I'll give myself a chance or two at it but thats it.
Ok, now that we have the rules out of the way.
My created player is a QB, as was I. I usually import him into my franchise from NCAA, and the only team I'll ever play for is the Cowboys. So that means I have to do the draft over & over until Dallas picks me. On the normal roster, I always end up 3rd on the depth chart so I never get to play. But, in franchise the players progress. So, I end up getting my guy to improve enough to be a starter after about a season or two.
But, it's fun. I have a good time with it...I even dress my player the same way I use to wear my wrist bands and everything...lol My wife gets a huge kick out of it...its really funny.
by the way...I played football in Pop Warner, High school, & one half season of semi-pro. So, clearly Madden is the only way I'll see the grindiron...lmao...lolLast edited by Guillotine 1; 07-09-2008, 08:16 PM. -

Re: Creating Yourself
I'm making a DE in ncaa and going to import him into franchise. I will add weight to my guy, but not height since I am 6'2'' and it sort of works. My weight however isn't big enough so I will add that. I have to gain 10 lbs before two a days because I don't weigh enough.WUSTLComment

Really? I find that interesting. See, I'm 5'10 & I weight 216 right now. When I was play ball I was 180lbs-185lbs, and I always thought my weight was fine in the game. Oh I see, you said you played DE...yea I see what you mean now...I was looking at it like you were a QB too...lolComment

Re: Creating Yourself
I have been doing this since it ever was started/available. I love to create my guy as a SS/FS and play as just my guy on defense.
Till this day there's a group of 4 of us that still create our defensive players and play all on the same team (49ers usually). We had to play on current gen for a while cause next gen didnt allow 4 player co-op until we found a way to do so in 08.
But yeah I would be SS, my uncle FS, bro in-law Mlb, good friend Mlb(ROLB do to 49ers having P WIllis) (3-4) defense. And we would all battle for who would be rookie of year/ Defensive player of year/ Pro bowls ect....
Its really cool on defense cause you cant make your stats happen like you could on offense. You gotta work for them while doing your job at your position. On offense if you are a qb/rb/wr/te you can inflate your stats by choosing plays for your guy. On defense you gotta fight not only the cpu but the other 3 humans lol.
In NCAA09 the 4 of us will pick a team each and I will create our players for each team picked. So I will be the SS for ND (yeaaah)Madden25 next gen cant come soon enough!!!Comment

Re: Creating Yourself
another point I'd like to make is...
The game plays just like real life too. For example, if I don't get deep enough into make drop backs then my passes get deflected a lot since I'm short for a QB. So stylistically I run the same types of plays, route combinations, and formations that I did when I played. Most of the time I find Madden to be harder than real life...funny.
A good thing for me is that I'm left-handed, without getting into my game strategy to much I'll just say...I know how to make it work to my advantage. No cheese, no glitching, just straight up ball.Comment

Re: Creating Yourself
I'm only 5'5 so i inflate my height for qb
. But i expect in 7 years when i'm 23 i'll be 6'0 xD. It won't happen in real life so i'll do it for ncaa and madden.
wonder how playing a 5'5 qb would work.Comment

For Madden '09 I'm not going to create my own player though, I'll just move Isaiah Stanback back to QB. But he's faster than the guys at EA give him credit for...he's easily a 93 on speed.Comment

Re: Creating Yourself
Re: Creating Yourself
I police myself when creating a player that I use in franchise.
1. I'm 5'10 173 pounds so thats what my guys height and weight always are.
2. I was a decently fast player in high school running a 4.52 so I usually give myself a decent speed rating.
3. I played all over in HS from QB (2nd string) WR, to CB, SS and FS along as a KR and PR so I stick to those positions specifically.
4. I don't like to stack my stats and I spread the ball all over the field if I'm a QB or the WR on a franchise team.
5. I don't give myself a single rating in the 90's.
Those are about all the rules I can think of right now though.« My Teams »

Re: Creating Yourself
Re: Creating Yourself
Well I do that sometimes too....First I usually create a RB, I like the running back position. Ironically I never create a defensive player though I love to play defense ( I was a LB in HS). After creating my guy I usually run a 4 year dynasty with my favorite NCAA team, the Miami Hurricanes. Then I import him to Madden and try my best to draft him on my team (The Eagles). If I don't get him, I try to trade for him later on. I've made some ridiculous trades just to acquire my created guy. I've given up Mcnabb and Westbrook one year..lol....
In my opinion, I think it's the fantasy of playing in the NFL that drives me to do that. Some of us have played the sport at a young age, and weren't good enough to get scholarships. So for me, creating a player and leading him to glory is a way of giving life the middle finger and saying....F U...I can make it big in a videogame....Lol.... One year I actually let my guy get go to another team and watched his career closely....That was kind of fun as well. Either way, you're not the only one bro...."I'll die before I lose, cuz I was born to win."- Drake

Re: Creating Yourself
I create myself and my brother at QB, and my two oldest brothers at WR and my dad at TE, since that's what they all played.
I usually play offline by myself or with a friend so I inflate the ratings. I exaggerate my own look too, since I am in a wheelchair, I make the legs on the player small but the shoulders and arms pretty big.Comment

I create myself as a WR or CB since that's what I play in real life. Since I'm going to be a Sophomore in HS, I usually make myself taller and bigger (6'3" 210 works). Since I'm more of a quick guy than fast, I'll give myself a mid-90's in agility and a 88-91 in speed. I usually start in NCAA, after the first few seasons so it matches up chronologically, and import him to Madden from there.

Re: Creating Yourself
Re: Creating Yourself
I used to create myself, for a seperate single player franchise. I am just under 6' and I tip the scales at 215.
I make myself as a incoming freshman FS after the first season of NCAA. I haven't done this in a while and haven't ever on next gen, but I always tried to make myself a 4 star recruit, with 87 spd, 85 agi, 88 acc, 90 jmp and 70 cth, then try to get the rest of my stats to make me no better than 4 stars. I never give myself the starting job, but I do sub myself in nearly every SP teams package as a gunner, kick coverage guy and somewhere on returns other than returner.
I then try to work my way up to start, without forcing it, and hope that I leave college early and make it into the draft, then try to draft myself onto the Cowboys.
I always make me as number 13 and I will move other guys off that number to get it. I know that the No Fun League doesn't allow that # for DBs, but I still use it anyway.
I guess in next gen I would give myself pretty good "hit power", because my best trait was my complete disregard for my physical well being. I would not make my tackle rating high, if just to balance out the hit power and I would probally give myself a decent zone cov rating, but a somewhat lower man cov rating.
I have a great time with this really un-sim idea, but it is strictly for a solo 'chise, the multi-user franchises we try to keep as "sim" as possible. I think of myself as a hardcore, sim style Madden guy, but I like to "play the dream" now and then.Comment
