    The right way to backpedal

Alright, I've been seeing this extremely important motion for DB's depicted wrong for too long. Its about time I said something about it, especially since I'm a DB myself. I really hope Ian sees all this, and even if he doesen't see THIS thread, hopefully he sees the right way someway, somehow, somewhere.. because right now it really looks awful

Basically, the way it's shown in Madden, is backing up, standing straight up. In real life, this is going to get you embarassed by receivers..

The wrong backpedal aka ..Standing straight up

    - When you have to plant your foot to make an angle, you'll either take forever, or fall flat on your face.

    - You can't turn your hips fast at all to try to adjust to a receiver's route

    - You can't take big steps, and you lose lots of speed. Think about it, when you run, are your legs stiff and straight? No, they're raising high up, taking big steps. Which brings me to ..

    The proper backpedal

-This is sort of a low stance for corners, because the first thing they're normally going to do is back pedal the hell out of there. For safeties, they can start off with any stance they want, because while they do back pedal, its not as much of a quick movement.

-During the backpedal, they'll pump their arms, and try to make as big a step backwards with their feet as they can, its almost like very fast lunges. As I mentioned earlier, running is the same way, you want to pump your arms, and try to take a big step .. not just swaying your arms and taking little quick baby steps.

-Shifting hips; when the receiver runs to the left or right of the DB, they'll do a motion in which their hips are facing the receiver, and they're running. Its not that weird side step thing that we see in Madden right now.. I wish I could go more in depth with this one, because its very important, but its much better explained in person.

I have a video here to show the basic, proper way to backpedal, you'll see the rights and wrongs I was talking about.

Notice the "wrong way" is EXACTLY what you see in Madden, I thought that was pretty funny

Re: The right way to backpedal

Yeah, the backpedaling animations stink. But I say ditch the whole thing since most db's are now being taught to "skip" out or shuffle in their zone techniques (its more of a sideways run). Although, alot of corners still pedal in soft man situations, so I guess they should fix the pedal animations and add the true zone-turn/man-turn techniques.
