So Ian's new blog caused some dispute, so i made a vid Comparing the two games hoping it would clear some stuff up and maybe bring up some new things.

Notice how in the 2K vids the players plant their foot to change directions. Much more fluid and believable animations.

Also notice the animations of the player struggling to keep his balance as he changes direction suddenly.

Exactly! That's nuts!!!! NEVER seen anything close to that in Madden. Although, there's alot we've never seen in Madden.

Me and my boy were just talking this morning about how All Pro 2K8 just "felt" more like real football.

Stuff like this just adds up.

Nice video and all, but again, you miss the point entirely.

There are two speeds we're dealing with here-- functional speed and full stride speed.

Madden videos- Player is laying on sprint trigger. This is full stride speed. Cuts aren't possible... you'll break your own ankles or fall over.

APF video- player is not laying on sprint trigger because game does not have sprint trigger. This means the player is actually moving at a rate at which the break downs and cuts make sense. This is functional speed. If you are rapidly tapping the sprint button, it does not matter, because APF takes you out of sprint if you try to make a sharp cut.

Now you can debate whether it's better for APF to take you out of sprint to make a cut, or for Madden where you are allowed to stay in sprint but heavily handicapped for it. I prefer greater control personally to the computer dictating my actions. (You'll note that when the player makes too sharp a cut, Madden DOES take him out of full stride speed and gives him a cut animation)

You cannot break down and make those cuts at a dead sprint. You can only make wide turns, as is illustrated in the Madden video.

Ian has already said... at standard functional speed, there are animations for these types of cuts. So lets wait for those, and then we can compare apples to apples, eh?

yeah I think its safe to say that madden will most likely "never look like that" I mean, they are pimping this new running stuff and its not even close. I really want to say they cant or they just dont know how to cause im not sure why they wouldnt want to make madden look like that. especially since Ian claims to be a student of football gaming IE look at 2k5 etc and try to improve.

I have been talking about that damn "sprint button" all day its is so silly and needs to be reduced to a more practical burst. As you travel in a straight line you build your top speed based on your ratings. But as a person who has played football and who also ran track most of the time in football you dont reach top speed because your always cutting ,stopping or changing directions.

Everytime I play Madden or NCAA weither on offense or defense I hold the sprint button the whole play and thats not how it goes IRL. And on top of that I do it with there being no penalties what so ever.

there is only a few occasions when the video is under similar circumstances. All doubters pause it exactly at 2:28. I do gotta say the turf shooting up every now and then is a pretty cool feature, and the field degradation in general is pretty cool. Thanks for posting this video OP.

Wow 2k does do some things really well. But I do like the control of Madden better always have and always will. Thats just what makes Madden well Madden is the great control. When I play a 2k game I feel stiff and a bit awkward.

But the animations on those games are hands down over the top.Grrrrreat! I love the way the players break down when they cut in 2k.

PS: The thing that actually got me thinking about this today was the fact that I was playing 2k5 and was comparing in my head. I started running around in practice mode and liked the way it put in the COD animations... there were two problems...

First off, I couldn't stay at a full sprint. The game geared me down to turn. That's fine, it's just another way of doing it. The real problem I ran into in game-- and I also fired up APF (I own it but it's a vastly inferior game compared to 2k5, other than visuals) to check it... the cuts don't apply to the computer when it doesn't want them too. That's why screen passes are so ineffective in ESPN/APF... the moment your offensive player catches the ball, the defender hyper-turns... basically instantly is facing the other direction... and tackles you.

As long as Madden's speed and COD system applies equally to human and computer, offense and defense, ball carrier and non-ball carrier, it'll trump 2ks movement on that point alone.

                              I agree with Adembroski.

                              Two totally different circumstances.

Sprinting vs Jogging is no comparison. The chopping up of grass from 2k is nice though.

But prefer the player responsiveness in madden.
