What factors into Madden's trade logic?

Does age or contract play a role or does it go strictly by overall rating?

What are the approximate going rates for guys at each ratings threshold (i.e. 70 overall, 80 overall, 90 overall, etc)

Well I think it goes from overall rating, I mean if you have 92 RB and want to trade for a 95 RB or higher you can't do it.

Right...I guess I should have been more specific though. I am most interested to know how does the CPU value draft pick for player trades.

Would an 75+ guy warrant a 3rd round pick compensation, could I land a 6th rounder for a 65 overall guy, etc?

I've never been quite sure what goes in to the trade logic, but as of 09, it has been too easy to fleece the computer. I have to go out of my way to try and make sure the computer gets a fair trade so my team doesn't end up totally stacked.

I'd love for the logic to include things like age, need, potential and scheme fit.

Well put, I had a lot of people doubt that I could get a first round pick for Joey Porter (94 OVR). In real life that probably wouldn't happen unless a team like the Colts thought he was the missing piece and would give up their late first rounder. In past Madden anyone rated in the 90s could definitely snag you at least a first rounder, but it will be interesting to see how the logic factors in age this year.

I'm sure a 75- 80 guy would be like 2nd or 3rd round. I don't exactly know how the round trades go in Madden so.

It seems like with the sretched ratings that guys rated at 70+ hold more value than in the past. It'll be interesting to see if and how the trade logic has been tweaked to factor in the new value of each ratings level. A 75 overall talent is a lot more valuable than in recent years.

In the last few maddens, i think positions had a rating and then the players overall ratings added to that so:

(all numbers are estimates for explanation sake.)

QB = 200 (position value) + 90 (players rating) = 290

HB = 160 (position value) + 90 (players rating) = 250

FB = 40 (position value) + 90 (players rating) = 130

WR = 150 (position value) + 90 (players rating) = 240

P = 20 (position value) + 90 (players rating) = 110

1st rd pick = 150
2nd rd pick = 125
3rd rd pick = 100
4th rd pick = 75
5th rd pick = 50
6th rd pick = 25
7th rd pick = 10

So for example@ MJD who's rated 93 in m09 would have a value of 93+160 = 253.

Draft pick value= 1st rd (150) + 3rd (100) + 7th (10).

I don't think there was another variable in the players value for the last few maddens.

Ha definately. A coach may trade a starting position player-or a good second string player(Darren Sproles)- for a more important starting position player (ie a WR for a DE).

Good stuff. Any idea on draft pick for draft pick trades? Hopefully it goes directly from an NFL trade value chart.

There should be a trade value rating for each player. It could be a combination of OVR, age, potential, the previous years stats, and their current contract. Players with huge signing bonuses like Haynesworth and Matt Ryan should be impossible to trade for because of the huge cap hit that their teams would have to take in order to trade them

Agreed...Trades should be much harder to complete. Trades involving players not on the trading block should merit over-compensation.

They definitely should be harder, but I also think you should be able to get something decent in return if a backup comes out of nowhere and has a good season the way New England did with Cassel. That is why I'd like the previous years stats to be included in the trade value. If I get good production out of a backup who happens to have a low potential, he probably won't progress much, but I think having a good statistical year should at least increase their trade value
