The strafe catch on Offense is actually a weapon in real life

Larry Fitzgerald has taken this to another level. Steve Smith and Moss as well. I wasn't one to use it all the time, but there is a need for it in the game. So if its in the game(real life), it should be in the game

The only time you see a strafe catch is if the QB hauls a bomb down field that comes up short or on hail mary plays. Or curls as well. Not on an out route or a slant or a post or an in route or a drag.

True. But in real life, its a team's strategy with certain WRs. Just throw it up to whomever and let them go get it. It should've been toned down a lil, but not taken out the game. The Hail Mary is even more useless now.

I always said it shouldn't have been taken out....they should have created a counter move for the defense that allowed the DB to punish the receiver for going up to catch the ball...like a leathal hit stick function to jar the ball loose. Just my .02.

This could have easily been fixed if EA would have added momentum to the receiver. Instead of stopping on a dime to turn/strafe/RC, he could take a few strides to gather himself before leaping into the air......you know, like real life.

There should be a rating for strafe catching and you should be able to do it with any player but the chances of you actually holding on to the ball should depend on the rating of the player.

Yea they should make it where an animation happens there at least. One where he takes a few quick steps then plants his feet to turn around. I do miss the strafe on offense though.

Re: The strafe catch on Offense is actually a weapon in real life

You see straft catches MAYBE 4 or 5 times a game MAX in real life.

Granted Larry Fitz. Randy Moss. and Steve Smith may do it every game, but do they, or anyone else on the team do it successfully 9 out of 10 times? And when they do perform the catch, how many times? Matter fact, how many times do you even see it in a single game? Maybe every other drive a team has...DEFINITELY not every drive, and DEFINITELY not by anyone on the team...

And BTW...the Straft catches in real life are 9 out of 10 times CONTESTED by the defender.

So if you want to say 'since its in the game, it needs to be in the game..'...I hope it only occurs a max of 5 times, if that during a game as well as contested by the defender, and ONLY performed MAINLY by an Elite player.

                  Is this a fair observation?

Everytime a football hits me in the back of my head im just looking at my tv like....really????
Before I respond, I really commend you on being primarily a 'Superstar Mode' player, and hope they give you something to work with by Madden '11, since its obvious that mode has be really looked over like crazy.

But coming with your comparison with the QB sneak being ran 20 times, and the straft being incorporated 20 times, I think its like comparing oranges to apples...

I say this because, hey, if you have 4th and inches 20 times in a game, or 3rd and short 6 or 7 times a game, and a QB sneak is the perfect play...hey...you gotta do what you gotta do. However, you can prepare your defense for it by jamming the middle of the D...

When performing 'Straft Catches', 'Spectacular Catches', or 'Rocket Catches'..its not something you can catch the defense off guard for (or at least...it should not be something you can catch the defense off guard with..). 'Straft catches should be (95% of the time) performed by an Elite player that occurs maybe 3 - 5 times Max a game...(I really think about 2 or 3 times max...but w/e)...

Also it should be contested by the defender. And 99% of the time the defender stands and watches, which is NOT realistic at all. Especially everytime its 3rd or 4th and long and you no the 'Straft catch' is coming..by Larry Fitz or Wes Welker...which shouldnt be the case -- ESPECIALLY uncontested.

So basically my case is this:

QB sneaking can catch a defense off guard even if it occurs an more often in one game than another, and basically if you QB sneak at will on 1st and 10 (for example)..your only setting yourself up for failure.

Rocket Catching, Straft Catching, Spectacular Catching should happen at a very limited time by mainly an Elite Player that with the defense actually reacting to it.

I see Larry going up and catching the ball in the demo I just don't switch to him when I bomb it out and he jumps and gets it sometimes it's not over powered.
