No doubt, Madden 10 has made great strides this season, in nearly every category that truly matters. So, with so many improvements, how could this game possibly score worse than 09, or even the same?

Game reviewers are like anyone else, and can certainly change their mind once the honeymoon is over. So, after the travesty that was Madden 09, and years of jerk optimism, then disappointment, could reviewers have just now decided to be much more critical towards EA Tiburon? Because some of these scores seem completely baffling. So, are they really doing their job? Are they really being fair to the new development team? More importantly, are they being fair to us gamers?


Now, let's check out some of the questionable scores, so far, shall we?

the games are always overrated..IMO

the games should be judged on their own merit, what it got last year has nothing to do with what it gets this year so their scores should not be compared. just because it got a lower score doesn't mean it's the worst of the bunch.

Wow, the hype machine is in full effect. I remember going through this every season. We will see how lovey dovey OS is with Madden once it comes out.

If reviews are still solid after a month, I might buy it. Used.

I think it's going to be really interesting to see what kind've sales numbers these reviews bring this year. I saw this blurb in a story over at USA Today this morning and it has me wondering whether we could be nearing the end of exclusivity, due to the declining sales trend:

"Even longtime hits are taking their lumps. EA Sports' NCAA Football 10 is selling slower than expected, and Madden NFL 10, out Friday, could get sacked.

Each of the past three years, Madden has sold fewer copies than the previous iteration, according to market tracking firm NPD Group. Consumers bought 7.6 million copies in 2007 and 5.8 million last year."

Yeah some of these reviews are a little sketchy. With the improvements that still need to be made, and the fact that they worked so much on presentation and it still isnt implemented correctly and has issues, I cant see someone giving the game a score over 90.

Just cause its the "best madden on next gen" doesnt mean its an auto 95 or sonthing. as a game on its own it needs to be rated and once you digest the kool aid its only a decent game.

The way I see it, Madden 10 is a back-to-basics Madden.

EA added stuff that should already be in the game (online franchise, cut-scenes, gang tackles).

And likewise, Madden is still missing stuff that was in previous games (play editor).

It's nice to see progress, but I'm not impressed by the basics. Basic features are a foundation for innovation. Where's the innovation at?

Unfortunately, there's no innovation yet. Just lots of eye candy and graphic tweaks.

Madden 10 get's a 80% for me.

They are doing well with basics, but I'm not overly impressed.

Still, it's the only current NFL football video game in town and should satisfy me for a couple months.
