So many times I have a wide open receiver who just drops the ball. Am I supposed to hit "Y" to make him catch it? And I'm not switching into him by pressing "B", so I don't know why he doesn't automatically catch it.

If your not switched to him, he will automatically make the catch.
The only other thing I can think of is if your throwing too early in the play, the receiver may not have finished his route.
Also sometimes if you BULLET pass, the receivers may not be ready to catch.
In all other cases, it's a glitch -

I am having some problems with this too though, I throw the ball to a receiver and he will drop it, but he hasn't been touched the whole play, he drops it and there's no one around him, whether it be in the back field, or he drops it on a streak when no one even trys to swat the ball because they aren't even close to him.

If you're the intended receiver, then just run into the red circle and he'll try to catch it for you. You have to press the button if you're the defender though.Comment

I've always switched to reciever to catch the ball, more fun that way. Of course when you press Y and want them to jump and they instead wait for the ball to fall into their hands 3 inches below the other team's player, or don't do anything at all, it sucks hard. Especially on defense because that results in a huge play for the other team.Comment
