When you absolutely know the screen is coming, what defensive play do you call?
When you absolutely know the screen is coming, what defensive play do you call? I'm only asking because I seem to have trouble stopping the screen. I've tried several man defenses, and even containment plays but haven't had much luck. Are there any specific plays you go to that have much success?I always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific!Tags: None -

What I do is run a man defense, manually tell me DE's to cover the flats and then spotlight the HB. Its not a guaranteed stop, but I have hit the HB for a loss a time or two.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I play 2 Man coverage and manually control the linebacker responsible for covering the screen.
Another play that works sometimes is the Nickel 245 SS Blitz. If you have a good blitzing strong safety, you can disrupt the play in this manner as well. Again, take control of the linebacker on the halfback in this play as well.Comment

I like to have my DEs do a contain and then either have a zone that covers the flats or man up. Either way the DE usually makes the play. My AI DE picked my brother off last night when I did a contain on a screen for a pick 6.NFL: Bills

the only sure way to stop it is control a guy and go by the runningback. the only way the computer stops my screens is if they are playing man because they get to the reciever before my blockers get to him.Comment

Zone perhaps.
The screen tries to invite the blitz so that's out. Man coverage might get rubbed/run off by the dummy WR routes.
I would try some kind of short zone. Something with the flats covered and maybe a mid hook zone behind it from an LB or two as well.
Also, shift the DL to the direction you think the screen is going and have them crash in that direction as well. Hopefully, that would keep them from being baited down by the gap created by the flowing OL and get the DL to flow in the same direction and maybe get penetration."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I tend to use a cover 2 blitz up the middle. When the linemen pull you can sometimes blast the qb. And you have the guy covering the flat.METS. NY FOOTBALL GIANTS. PENGUINS. HURRICANE FOOTBALL. LEBRON.

Re: When you absolutely know the screen is coming, what defensive play do you call?
Thanks to Madden 09, which the screen passes were always abused, it helps me recognize when the play is called today. The 46 linebacker contain is a good play to stop screens. But now I just use whatever play and user control my defensive ends for the hb screens, and user control my olbs for wr screens. When they sub a speedy hb for 3rd down plays in a shotgun formation, thats usually a dead giveaway to cover the hb for the potential screen. If you see a 3 or 5 receiver set on 3rd and long, I play it safe and assign one of my olb's to cover the flats.Image in Signature Removed by Operation Sports Staff due to TOS Violation.Comment
