My knee jerk reaction is to be nervous, thinking that games which are already too User friendly IMO, will now be even more so.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.
I guess it'd be easy to have a knee jerk response of....oh no.
I have to admit, I guess I'm not feeling too comfortable about a guy who's focus has been primarily on arcade games coming to Madden. Time will tell if his background makes an impact on the game.
Edit: I used the term "Knee jerk response" before seeing your post Jfsolo. So no offense meant.
I hope they don't change the "main" series to match more like Arcade.
Otherwise, I better start reading up on Football Mogul for next season.
Folks i am 36 years old, and have loved and had passion for the Madden series since literally day 1, way back in 1989 on sega genesis. My problem with the game over the last few years is not just how good or bad each iteration of the game is each year, its just that its STALE now.
It amazes me how fans of this game and more importantly the series squabble every year about certain features, or minor gameplay details. The fact of the matter is that over the years, other than features add or removed, the core game has felt the same for far too long.
Madden 10 in all honesty has been one of the BEST versions they have made to date. As far as this engine/engines, or game goes (however you want to verbalize it), its not a BAD game at all, its just same ol, same ol. I am ready for a NEW, FRESH NFL Football experience. Different animations and physics and player movement. More intelligent, adaptive AI. Just a newer, better product overall.
I fear we will never get this newer or better experience with Tiburon at the helm. They haven't changed much over the years and the game sells, so corporate EA is happy. Guess we will have to wait and hope EA eventually loses the exclusive license to see what other creative developers can do with the NFL experience.
I for one would love to see what Sony's MLB The Show studio could do with the NFL with that level of detail. Or 2K putting a real effort into a next generation NFL title. Madden is just stale now.
Considering Phil Frazier, the Senior Director of Madden was involved and oversaw the creating of the NFL Tour prior to coming over to work on Madden, I wouldn't let it worry me.
Besides, so long as Phil and Ian are working on the game and basically leading the team, I don't see any reason to worry about the addition of Tunnell, given that Madden took a step in the right direction this year.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
Don't care about arcade/sim, the bottom line is that Mark Turmell makes fun sports games.
Jam, Blitz, Hitz, etc. are some of the best sports franchises around.
And for those who think he is incapable of making a good "sim" game, I suggest you track down a copy of NHL Hitz Pro for the Xbox.
With the right sliders, it's still one of the best hockey sims on the market.
I have to agree, I have great memories from all of those games. I think Turmell is a great addition to the team, and Madden should turn out to be a better game because of him.

If there was rep on this site i would give you some. this is exactly Maddens problem.
Anyone who was responsible for the original NBA Jam is alright in my book. To paraphrase some of the posters before me, Madden has become stale, and Turmell is a guy known for making fun games - his creative oversight, combined with Ian Cummings, et al, doing the day-to-day work, could be just what the series needs to feel fresh again.
Let's all cross our fingers and hope for the best, eh? It's not time to jump off the bridge just yet.
Being that this is the only NFL football game we have to play (dumb 3 man arcade games don't count) if it doesn't feel and look like real football when all is said and done, there will be a huge backlash.
I am pretty sure they realize this. Instead of doing things like "the ultimate team" why not just make franchise super deep for those who want that, and leave "play now" for the noobs.
