    Getting Rid Of Ranked Games

Would you be in favor of getting rid of ranked games. Personally, I think rank games play a lot into the reasoning why so many guys disc glitch. Do you think your online game play would be better without ranked games.

what in the world does playing a ranked game have to do with a disc glitching?

      I guess I don't understand this.

If you don't like the way people play in ranked games, why play in them? There are plenty of people from sites like this one that you could play in non-ranked games and you wouldn't have to worry about it.

I don't really see this as something they should get rid of when it is something YOU can control.

Re: Getting Rid Of Ranked Games

Without ranked games and quit percentages, there's no incentive for the average lobby scrub to stick out a tough game.

When records don't matter, people will just sell out in the first drive or two. If they fail, they just quit and start a new game.

I think the solution is to fix DC glitches as much as possible and just continue to refine the game towards realistic logic. If this year is any indication, we could be in for some very positive improvements in the future in terms of sim play. The sooner "free-style play" is properly punished by realistic logic and sound playcalling, the better. I'd love to pick this game up and play without having one discussion about cheese in terms of rocket catches, flats throws, QB draws, turbo blitz etc...

I dont believe people spend hours finding a DC glitch for a non ranked game. Im talking about the game as a whole, not just guys from Madden sites. Not everyone that play online know about Madden sites.

CreatineKasey: There is no way this game will ever be sim. A pure sim game would be horrible. They tried that with NFL Head Coach, as you know that game is no longer around. Im not hear to talk about Sim vs Freestyle.
Just saying there is a direct connection between DC and ranked games.

I'm not arguing that with you, I agree with you.

My point is that if you don't want to worry about it, don't play ranked games.

What's the difference between DC and quitting an unranked game once one user ends the connection? Does having a DC glitch even matter at that point because you can just quit and obtain the exact same result: nothing. Isn't it a lose-lose situation? In both instances the game doesn't matter past the point of disconnection. At least with the ranked match option there's an opportunity for the game to matter.

A DC glitch gives you an automatic loss. So, your up 21-7 but I decide to DC you. You telling me you're going to be happy about Madden after you get back to the main screen and see you got an L for that game.
Unranked, is unranked so it doesn't matter. You're more likely to change a behavior by eliminating the ranked game.

But if the game isn't ranked, there's no record of it regardless. If you KNEW you won, isn't that what matters at that point? There's no record of the game either way. I guess I just don't see the benefit of what you're proposing.

What I'm saying is that if someone quits or uses a DC glitch in an unranked game, it gives the same result... what's the point? There's no upside to taking the ranked game away.

At this point you can choose to play unranked. I think one huge upside of ranked games is the fact that people will often play entire games. Also, it gives the obvious benefit of competing against other ranks... a fundamental piece of online gaming since its inception.

In such a competitive game like Madden, I'd be hard pressed to see a basic ranking system be removed to eliminate disconnect glitches.

                    Just my opinion.

a lot of people feel that the ranked games are where the cheesers are, trying to increase their precious ranking...

so, why get rid of it? keep the cheesers there, chasing their rankings dragon...

here's a solution... play unranked games where many more folks are there just for fun. I'd estimate at least a 3-1 ratio of cheesers if you play a random ranked game vs unranked.

There is no right or wrong to this, Im just trying to get a discussion started on it so I can send some info to EA.

jvaccaro is 100% correct, dumping ranked games would make things far worse than they are now. i've played many unranked random games and most people there play "normal" for the most part. if you make them all unranked there will just be crazy chaos and no escape from it.

The only way I can envision the removal of standard ranked games is to make sure they have constant prize based tournaments and leaderboards for that, kind of like what's going on with the Xbox 360 version of M10 right now.
