Madden NFL 06 PS2/Xbox= Inspiration for MAdden 11 nxt gen

If Madden 11 wants to be successful, they should go back to Madden 06 for the PS2/Xbox....

This game had IMO the best passing system in utilizing the Passing Cone....the features/options for this game were plenty....And the QB's played to their skill set!

There are a lot of things to be learned from this game for the current Madden team....even the physics were pretty darn good along with the running game...what do you all think?

RFA, 2 sets of FA (1 predraft, 1 post draft), player morale, training camp battles, in-season progression/regression, tony fn bruno, player roles, TRADE ME!, tons of uniform options....

06 was the first version of Madden that I didn't buy. I rented the game and just didn't like the feel of the vision cone. I appreciated the effort and understood what they were trying to implement but to me, it was too complex, having to move your QB's eyes with the R-stick then let go and press a button and also possibly using the L-stick to move the QB to avoid pressure was overwhelming.

I'm 5 years deep and still have my texans franchise goin from madden 08 on xbox. In my opinion those last gen maddens (06-10) allowed for you to play an extremely realistic game of football. The vision cone (again in my opinion) is the single greatest gameplay feature introduced into madden. You didn't have to use the right stick at all either. You just hold down RT/RB tap the reciever icon to switch to look at the reciever and tap again to throw the ball. I liked reading my progrression and coming up with different route combos to get rid of the ball quickly. Made your presnap read almost as important as reading the defense after the snap. I'm a grown *** man who appreciates the chess match that is football tho. Definately don't fall into EA's target audience who typically want to run up their win totals online using the same 3 plays. Sucks for me I guess. I will admit Madden 10 was a nice step back to gamers like myself.

I agree....at least put the option back in as was done in previous versions such as 07 and 08.

For those who think its that hard, to me it feels no different than a FPS. One stick moves the guy and the other aims. It takes a bit of getting used to but it just made things more interesting and made the AWR rating have value.

I can probably find 06 for less than a buck. I may pick it up and try and lab the vision cone again, just to see if I can handle it better now. I was so used to the quick passing mode that I kind of wrote the thing off. It's hard to adjust to something new, especially when passing in Madden had been the same for years.

You know what would be nice?

If people stopped asking for features from 5 years ago.

Yeah I realize that Madden 10 didn't have half the features it once did, but bringing back some old stuff isn't ideal.

How about they recreate those items in a completely new and advanced way? How about they come up with new ideas and implement those?

Why not just play Madden 06 on PS2?

Who the heck wants Madden 11 to be like Madden 06? I want Madden 11 to be ahead of the curve not 5 years behind it.

Its a sad thought, but Madden was actually enjoyable 5 years ago. I never liked the vision cone, but it made you pay for starting that rookie QB with little awareness. Your team was rewarded for making the playoffs by progressing and your players gained an extra boost of experience (awareness) just for playing in those games.

I recently started playing 08 on PS2 whenever I go by my cousin, and I found out that Madden already had late round studs and 1st round busts and teams drafted to their needs. In one draft I had the 12th pick and I realized that their was the #1 Defensive End (Top 5 pick) still there. I got him because i needed him, and his overall was a 81 w/ 89 speed. Of course, if the 3-4 worked then this guy would've been awesome cuz of his size too.

Later in the 4th round, i decided to get a back up RB...since my current RB overall was an 80, i figured he would be my Franchise Back and I would progress him. To my surprise, that 4th round RB actually had an 84 overall.

I'll agree that the ratings now have more meaning than they did back in the day, but that proves how much madden has regressed. Look at all the OPTIONS you had in the offseason from these 05, 06, 07, 08 games, and now look at all your options

I agree 100% Icebergslim! I enjoy the real chess match of football and if I am playing against the CPU but they are being penalized for bad awareness in the face of a rush and I intercept them, its a great thing! I too do not want to be successful running the same plays over and over again....which is why most people hated the feature because it was too realistic for them!

I had to make more presnap reads in this game than I do in MAdden 10....which says something.

KG: You have the wrong idea. We don't want the game to necessarily go backwards, we just want the game to keep the features that worked well and ENHANCE them....Of course we need presentation and better player movement etc etc....but having some of these options implemented correctly will do wonders for Madden.

I understand where you are coming from. I think that Madden or any football game should force gamers to take about a half an hour to get adjusted to playing it....I feel like there is a problem if we play Madden 08-10 on the next gen and you already know everything there is to be done with the game. That is not progress. The NFL is challenging...and it should be more difficult depending on the game situations.

Oh, good news. The Vision Cone is in Madden 09 for the PS2. If you decide to use it you lose the ability to use the QB Avoidance manuevers.

I'm going to lab the cone a bit and see what I think. I just hope my disc holds up. It's got a crack on the front (right in the little circle) that's spreading. I think it was from taking the disc out of the box; I swear, sometimes they make it difficult for you to get the game out of those things.

So, I just played a half using the Vision Cone and overall, I enjoyed using the feature. It's really cool to go back in replays and see your QB scanning the field for open receivers.

The only problem I have is that with the Vision Cone, I take a lot of sacks as it takes me longer to scan the field using the R-stick than if I'm just using my eyes and reading the D that way. Is there a faster way to scan the field than using the R-stick?

I used the Colts and Raiders and boy, you really get a feel for how different the two QB's are. With Peyton, you see a big portion of the field right off the bat and if you run trips or something on one side, then he can hit whichever guy is open. Russell, on the other hand, has a very small window and can only focus on 1 receiver at a time.

I do like the contrast a lot. I'm going to lab this some more. I may run a 2nd franchise and use the Vision Cone and see what the differences in stats are.

In an effort to not take many sacks you should read the defense and decide before the ball is snapped who is your 1st and 2nd reads and if there is an all out blitz, who your hot read is. Hope that helps

Thanks. I think I was just focusing more on where to point the vision cone than reading the D pre-snap.

Trying to decide who to start up a new franchise with and use the Vision Cone with. I was thinking the Colts would be fun to use as I could use Manning and make all his pre-snap adjustments and reads and whatnot. But, then again, his vision is so large that it's not a huge challenge.

A good middle of the road team would probably be best as I'd probably be too frustrated running with a terrible QB.
