    Progression Petition

This is inspired by the IR petition out there.
There seems to be two very distinct schools of thought on the issue of progression.

The first side wants progression to be at least partially stats-based. If they have a 70-overall running back run for 1500 yards, they want that running back to increase in ratings. One reason behind this is that they feel there should be some award for individual player achievement. After all, running all those yards with a crappy running back is quite a feat.

The other side thinks the first opinion is silly, since if you are able to run 1500 yards with that 70 overall running back, he doesn't need to increase in overall ratings - he's where he should be. If you increase his overall rating, he will just run for even more yards next season. These people feel that progression should be based solely on things like age, coaching, and potential.

Here's the idea: Give us the choice

If you sign the petition, you are telling EA that you want the option of choosing between the two progression styles instead of having one or the other (or some hybrid of the two) forced upon you. Maybe some kind of slider is the answer.

    Customization leads to happier gamers.

Signed. Give us the option to hide the overall rating.

Wonder how much extra this slider would cost.

Running all those yards with a lousy running back means either the team around him is amazing (specifically the o-line), the teams he faced were terrible, the user needs to adjust the difficulty level, or something is wrong with the gameplay engine.

I just don't understand this line of thought that because a player performs well at a certain rating number he should literally become a different and better player. It makes no sense. Just play the game on rookie if you want to dominate with junk players.

I guess we know which side of the debate you're on.
Do you support the petition though?

Well I know for fact this will not help for madden 10. Because they are done with patching madden 10 for the year. If this is about madden 11. This really need to go into the wishlist forum.

Or just make progression based on practices or repetitions and have a learning attribute.

Umm, I kinda agree with this guy.

Cedric Benson, sucked in Chi-town...balla in Cinci. Matt Cassel, nice w/ da Pats...not so nice w/ the Chiefs.

I believe a supporting cast is very important. People at different positions make other people better. a 3-4 D-line can make a LB core look Godly, a WR can make a QB look awesome, and many more instances with other positions.

I think a better petition would be a petition to get rid of the OVR rating. If it was gone, we wouldn't even need a choice. Gamers would really have to micro-manage their team's strength's and weaknesses'. Also, if it was gone, we wouldn't need a Progression Petition

Signed. Unfortunately I too would be in favor of completely getting rid of the OVR but I know that won't happen. So customization to tailor my franchise the way I want to see it progress is A LOT better than having guys locked into a potential rating.

                        Re: Progression Petition

How about a combination of progressing.
Like during the season every few weeks if players do good or bad they go up n down a little. Then during the offseason they go up or down depending on age and potential.
With this maybe a player could have a breakout season n increase his potential.

                          Re: Progression Petition

If they gave us a slider, we could all pick whatever type of progression we want to have in the game (or a mix of different types).
Having progression happen during the season would be great, but that's not what this petition is about.
Getting rid of the OVR sounds like an interesting idea, but that's also not what this petition is about.
This is about customization and whether people would prefer to have a choice in how their franchise runs.
I for one can't imagine why anyone would not want to be able to pick.

In my ideal Madden world OVR wouldn't exist. What would replace it would be VAL (Value). This way you have player potential determining the increase/decrease of ratings, not stats. Stats would increase/decrease VAL. This VAL rating would be used by teams to determine who to resign, who to go after in FA, who to trade for, and assess VALUE to the players being traded.

                              Re: Progression Petition

Example: Michael Turner was an 84 or something the year before he broke out with the Falcons. Next madden year he was a high 90. It makes sense for it to be stat based.

The issue is what if a drafted rookie has a terrible year? Do we drop his attributes because he sucked? Usually players progress from year to year.

So heres what I propose. Have a potential rating that affects young players developments. after they reach their 3rd or 4th year it should be stat based.

I've got a couple other ideas about madden also but Ill save them for a blog Im gonna start soon if anyone is interested in checking it out its going to feature tips for this year, info about next year, and ideas for next year.

Some things Ive thought of were a momentum meter, route based attributes, and a lot on online franchise.
