The Offical 3D Grass Thread

The Madden 11 pictures we have seen are outstanding, especially the new Donavan McNabb shot. The Graphics are amazing but there is one thing that has always bothered me the past few years. "Why dont we have 3D grass?" The grass in Madden 10 was awful, no joke it looks like a huge green rug thrown onto the field.

I believe Madden 07 was the only Madden to have 3D grass. I know it is likely that many people will bash me on this thread, everyone seems to think EA Sports Madden team is made up of only 5 people that should all work on just Gameplay. Ea Sports has an Art Team for Madden 11 and hopefully they can touch up the grass and bring the 3D grass texture back. It would really add to the football experience and would be a huge upgrade visually.

Last year there was a Colored Cleats Thread and EA listened and put it in the game. Lets hope the Art Department sees this and atleast considers it.

Doesn't that cost the developers polygons to use on the player models or somewhere else on the field?
Does any sports game out now, use 3d Grass? I don't remember seeing it in MLB the Show.

I don't care either way. While playing, I'm not studying the grass.

I'd rather have a great playing Madden with average grass than vice-versa.

But ok, improve the grass a little. And while we're on the topic, they should improve field degeneration a little more. Last year, it was barely noticeable.

Also, let's bring back the baseball diamond dirt in preseason games like last-gen had.

FIFA does. Madden 07 and 08 had the 3D grass I believe. It was a bit exagerated but was defiantly a nice touch to have. I miss it as well and hope it returns eventually. I'm assuming it's not the case based on the NCAA screens and the glimpse of the grass on the M11 screens released so far.

I could care less about the grass. It's not perfect, but it looks good enough. If you look at the NCAA locomotion video, it looks like they finally solved the foot pinning / body tackles relative to the field problem.

Oh yeah, I'd much rather see each players individual eyelashes than each individual blade of grass . . . Wait . . . what?

I'm guessing this is a joke. Because it doesn't.
Its hard to put 3d grass in a sports game with so many player models on the field at the same time, and crowds are 3d now. That all costs polygons.

forget 3d just give each teams home field there true look color wise and dedigration for grass ones

The Grass needs to look like it does in real life, texture and color wise.

Guys I am not someone who studies the grass or anything along the means of that. I am all about gameplay but there is only so much the team will consider from our posts. Things like cleats, colors, grass are all things that have a better chance of being changed compared to some of the aspects of gameplay.

I think they should focus on the graphics of the crowd more than 3D grass. The crowd graphics looks like a Madden game from the 90s..its seriously that bad.
