ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the new
i think ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration. its more comfortable and plus u can use the stiff arm button. pointing from left to right by using the right trigger2 and left trigger2. the old madden u could use the stiff arm button real good. but the new gen madden their is only one button u cant use it at all. and the juking system, use right trigger 1 and left trigger 1 juking from left to right. and use right stick as a hightlight stick just like the old madden. the same goes for the xbox 360. why did ea have to change the controls in the first place?Last edited by rivickolous; 04-09-2010, 12:49 PM.Tags: None -

As an option, sure. Honestly, fully customizable controls would be the best thing.

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
i'm really not down for it. only because i just to the time to get the hang of it. plus if they did redo some things to how the right stick is used.(read about some change to right stick in ncaa thread it didn't get into detail bout but somethings have been added) the old format would be useless.Comment

You have my vote.
The control configuration on last gen was awesome, and should have never been touched.
That was one area that was done correctly.
I would love to have the old control scheme back.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
I would certainly prefer a classic configuration, especially for offense. Something like this (XBOX 360):
A - Hold for speed burst
B - Spin
X - Dive
Y - Cover ball
LB/RB - Stiff arm left/right
LT/RT - Juke left/right
RS (Highlight stick)
Up - Truck/elude
Left/Right - Quick cut
Down - Quick stop
*Replace the hurdle button, and have hurdling be automatic (based on the jumping rating).Comment

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
I agree and second that motion, and third it, and on and on to infinity!!!
One big thing I miss was the way they allowed moves to be executed according to the way you hit the buttons via "pressure sensitivity".
I did a very long breakdown of how they could incorporate that along side the "dual-stick controls", here is the link Total Control and Responsiveness, warning this is very long and detailed.
Synopsis is- each move (spin/dive/hurdle/catch/swat/stiff-arm/cut-moves) would have three levels depending on how you hit the button.
Example: Dive
Tap = "fall forward" or half @$$ dive for lack of a better desription
Press = think M. Barber "superman" into endzone, long dive
Hold then release = over the pile
and during a "wrap up" tackle you could tap/press/hold button for
"reaching" out for more yards
I used dive because the "reaching out" is an extra. Each level would correspond with different animations with different "risk vs reward" factors and of course be dictated in effectiveness not just by "your timing" but the ratings of the player. With the dive, and all the moves, the tap is lowest risk lowest reward. Fumble would be the obvious choice here for risk, but say for "swat ball as defender" the hold release would have multiple risk.
First, the hold animations would slow you down as the player "gathers or sets up" his footwork and if you miss you would be putting yourself way out of position.
Second, the ratings would determine how long you could hold button down before you "slip, trip, fall, or even maybe "pull a hammy/high ankle sprain". So the hold/release would require slightly different "timing" for players of different appropriate ratings.Comment

If we ever got remotely close to that level of responsiveness in controls... I think that "other game" could finally take the back seat.I agree and second that motion, and third it, and on and on to infinity!!!

Now that we know of the differences to the control scheme, my idea isn't as good now

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
What do you mean by that^^^? I am just really detailed in my thinking. The first time I ever played a NFL football video game - I was in a "wrap" tackle animation near the goaline and I instinctively hit the dive button thinking the player would reach out the ball - that is just how my mind works.
If you go back and read my long version - don't get caught up in exactly what each button does at each level - you would not have to memorize this stuff - you already know what buttons do what - you would just know that you had "control" over each move by how you hit the button and you would "feel" your way through the rest.
Spin button on M04 or something was "pressure sensitive" and I learned it without "knowing" or being told it was there. Later I was going through the tutorial with young kid in my neighborhood and the tutorial pointed it out as a new feature and expanding that level of control has been an idea of mine ever since.Comment

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
agreed, there are many more things you can do with your player that you couldnt do on the old system and the new controls do a great job of allowing you to do those new things. Everyone loves living in the past and likes to say, make this like it was on the other system, but things need to evolve and improve.Comment

Re: ea should bring back the old-gen controller configuration its way better than the
I disagree, especially with the new control scheme you do not even have some of the features that we had on last gen.agreed, there are many more things you can do with your player that you couldnt do on the old system and the new controls do a great job of allowing you to do those new things. Everyone loves living in the past and likes to say, make this like it was on the other system, but things need to evolve and improve.
Making adjustments on the field for the defense was way faster, and the way I was able to assign a double team, or shading my defender to take away one side of the field was great also.
I guess to each their own, and is way multiple control schemes as an option would be best. Something that EA has seem to take a back seat on "OPTIONS"
Who knows maybe 11 has something close to it.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)
