3 Simple Things that would make the Franchise Mode 100x's better...

Playing a Franchise game on Madden 10 can be painful, boring, and dull because of simple, small things. Hopefully there is still time to add these simple small things into the mode.

1-In Game Saves: No Excuses Period. This was in Madden 2002. Let me continue my game where I left off at. It's been time that this was added to the game.

2-Ability to change teams. Sometimes I want to take over another franchise and lead them to prominence but don't want to deal with the headache of controlling all 32 teams. Let me have this control.

3-Ability to download/edit draft classes. Ala NBA2K10. Playing with fake rookies take out some realism during that first year.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

    About #2,

I agree and you should be able to switch teams at any point, not just the offseason - I have started a couple "multi-user" franchises and then had someone hear about it and want to get in, but they can't because you can't switch between user and CPU control!

Building onto the idea for #2, it would be sweet if they had a "Create-A-Coach" feature and if you play with a Franchise for five years and you are successful but then you go 4-12 two seasons in a row, the club will fire you and you get picked up by another team and get to assemble your staff. You also must follow that team's ideaology, like if Oakland signs me, Al Davis is going to handle the draft - or if New England hires me, I would get total control of signing players.

      Definately like that idea.

Edit: Or even with Al Davis, he chooses your staff! So you really do not have much controll to win with the football team.

In games in madden 2002. You are going way back ain't you. Madden 07 ps2 had ingame saves aswell. But I do agree ingame saves need to be put back in for people who has a busy life.

#3 - I am not sure exactly what you are getting at with this one. Do you mean the ability to rate players or edit their ratings for imported classes? Just not sure I understand.

I like importing the draft classes, well I did on last gen. M10 was first time I tried it on this gen and it was horrible, IMO. I think they did way too much lowering of "physical" ratings (SPD/AGI/ACC/JMP/STR) in order to make the incoming players OVR be in the right range. I think those should be left alone for the most part and the "position specific" ratings (PBS/PBF/JUK/SPN/CTH/CIT/MAN/ZON/PRC/etc etc) and AWR should be lowered to make the players fall into the right OVR range.

I always thought a cool feature would be in the NCAA game, at the "players leaving" screen if they allowed you to "tag" a player to ensure he was included in the draft class when you export it. I mean even if you had a 86 OVR player graduating (which means in years past he would not be in the class at all) you could force him onto the end of the draft class and maybe he would end up not being drafted and you could have a "project" rookie FA. I just always thought that would be cool.

In NBA 2k10 you can create your own draft classes, with your own ratings and players, and many on the 2kshare are very good.

I think that all of the players that come out in NCAA should be in the draft class and be deleted from free agency at the end of the year if they are not picked up. It would not be that hard to code just add a new variable to the player class called rfa and have it True for all rookie free agents and if the get picked up change it to False. All players that have it checked after the superbowl get deleted.

                  1. Newspaper - Just make it extremely detailed, there should be a section were we could check power rankings which change weekly, a rumor section about players that could be traded, etc...

                  2. Practice Squad - Seriously its gonna be Madden 2011 and I'm still waiting for this.

                  3. Training Camp that can improve a players overall potential ratings. Lets say you draft a "C" we should be able to improve that players potential by working with him in training camp.

                  4. NFL Draft needs an over haul, we should be able to make a big board of are top 100 players. And how awesome would be to see your #1 pick walk on stage and hold up his jersey!

                  5. Let us edit the NCAA rookies. When guys like Eric Berry come out with 77 speed its dumb let us fix these problems by being able to edit.

I love this idea, and something I have been wanting since back in the day when you created a coach and where trying not to get fired. actually made you play for 30 years, trying to break coach records. It hasn't been the same since.

I agree with most comments here.

Franchise does grow boring rather quickly. They have tried to get so clever with the menu system and yet so simple at the same time, moving about from trade screens to player cards is laborious at best! The found a 'neat franchise design what seems like 6 years agi and have hardly budged from it sense.

The level of depth is shallow and unimpressive. If ANYONE working on Madden REALLY loves the NFL GAME as much as they always claim in these producer videos we see, then they would certainly be aware of how fanatical NFL fans are about knowing stats - ALL KINDS OF CRAZY STATS, as well as how much emphasis is placed on the draft (from fans to the media alike), and not to mention a total general sense of disconnect with your players.

Things I KNOW will improve Franchise?...:

1- Must be way more in depth and given a wealth of knowledge with the draft. I dont need them to spend all their money and resources getting Mel Kiper to spend days at EA recording audio for predetermined players... What I need is players, fictional or imported, to have lots of 'beef' to their profile, their back ground, their personalities (which should influence their coachability depending on a COACH's PERSONALITY), to go along with their ratings. Which leads me to...

2- Again, individual players that FEEL (almost live and breath in the game) like they are alive. OTHER GAMES have made their rosters almost feel totally alive and fluid, with player personalities being a HUGE part of the success of those players on the field. Im not saying we go to the extent of THE SIMs, per say, but then again... why not begin approaching that area of player personality detail.

IMAGINE!!! In real life, a player's ego and personality directly influences how he ULTIMATELY succeeds or fails as a TEAMMATE, or as an INDIVIDUAL - Terrell Owens is a prime example. A truely gifted ATHLETE and Wide receiver... but after 1 or 2 seasons on a team, and with ego boosting media attention, he becomes a menace to his QBs and a locker room headache that cause inconsistency amoung the entire team. BUT remember, he wasnt like that his first few seasons... in IMAGINE-THAT-or-WHAT-IF-MADDEN-WERE-THIS-DEEP-LAND, he would have an 'EGO rating' (or whatever EA has to call it to keep the players from being too upset - those babies, lol) that would grow as he becomes more successful and if he plays on a team that has a coach that can't keep it in check, then the team, regardless of talent, becomes unstable - whereby within the course of a game, we see awareness ratings SPIKING or BOTTOMING out as his EGO comes into play should he not have a reception 3 quarters into the game... This could be replicated quite nicely into a franchise mode that would allow YOUR franchise experience to never be the same twice. which leads me to...

3- More coaches ratings and detail... I should be able to give a GAME BALL to a player or owner after a win KNOWING that if I SHUN a certain EGO (or even GIVE him the GAMEBALL) it could impact his fragile emotions...

4- Stats.... We need BASEBALL DEEP kinds of stats... with an importance placed on them in regards to ME STAYING INTERESTED IN MY FRANCHISE AND THE PROGRESSION OF ALL PLAYERS, not just mine.

5- Training Camp... ugh, as it stands now. I want to be able to run plays in practices KNOWING there is a chance of TWO things: 1) a player could have a breakthrough and his ratings improve... or 2)a player could have a setback, either via injury OR he 'just isnt getting it' and his gets down on himself. I want to know how players, drafted AND undrafted rookies for example, are reacting during preseason games...etc...

Crap... gots to run... There is tons more I could say on this subject... but all i know is, Madden as it stands is WAY OFF THE MARK of keeping me interested in my franchise... and so far there is ZERO EVIDENCE that will even change even a little bit in Madden 2011... so sad indeed.

OH... and LEST WE FORGET about the SUPERSTAR MODE?? UGH!!! EVEN WORSE!!

Hey EA, I have an idea for you... go play MLB 2xxx: THE SHOW and see how real DEPTH is implemented!

I like all your suggestions. Wasn't there like a training mode in Franchise in Madden 09? If you played in it your players ratings would be boosted for that game. It'd be cool if you spent like your entire off season training one player and see him get a slight bump in ratings for that entire season.

this would be the worst. actually i think the training (camp) should only be in the offseason, before the preseason starts even. Much like what we saw on the legacy gen maddens

That's what I said, but in previous Maddens they had the training before games.

These are mostly, if not all, good ideas. Here's the thing, Josh looman is "the man" [imo] when it comes to franchise mode. He worked on PS2 era franchise mode and was the man who gave us Madden 07. He also was in charge of making Head Coach. I honestly was more excited to meet him than Ian at CD because franchise is very important to me. I trust in him to do his best every year.

What really killed me in Madden 10's franchise was that the season felt like a serise of play now games concluding in a lack luster post season, a marginal off season and then rinse and repeat. What I liked in Madden 07 [on my original XBox] was several "little things" that came together. You had progression on weeks 5, 11, and 17 that reflected how well you team was [or wasn't] doing. You had player roles and player moral, that you could keep up with, that mattered on and off the field. You had the newspaper that gave you "storyline updates." All of these little things kept me involved durring a 16 game season. Also, in Madden 07, the pre-season "mattered." There were position battles. Madden 07 wasn't the perfect franchise mode, but at that time, it was the best I had ever played, and as of Madden 10, is still the best I have ever played.
