Meaning if your a 3-4 team than your best DE and DT should be starting at DT and your 2nd best mlb should be moved outside and you should bring in your 3rd string mlb for the other outside. While you move your 2 outside lb's to DE.

madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
Some of us like to use the multiple defence playbook. I personaly like it because it combines 3-4 and 4-3 formations into one book. However it is not realistic if you cant have seperate dept charts for each.

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
Another reason is they are not able to give the cpu the AI to recognise the difference between 3-4 and 4-3 players. It's very annoying when a 3-4 team ends up with a 260lb end. -
Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
They should do like Head Coach and change players ratings if they don't fit with your scheme. So a 4-3 DE that is undersized (6'1 255) might be a 70 OVR. In a 3-4 at DE he would be like a 50 or less OVR but if you'd move him to OLB he might become 74+ but still lack the coverage ability you'd normally want in a LB.
It would be even better if you could have this player listed as a DPR in both systems so he would almost never be subbed in at short yardage situations.Comment

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
I haven't played HC because I am PAL but I doubt they change a players ratings. If you move P.Manning to fb he is still the same player just in the wrong position so his overall is rubbish. They most likely had different criteria for DE position in different schemes when calculating the overall. They should do like Head Coach and change players ratings if they don't fit with your scheme. How can you say that when you haven't even played HC?!I haven't played HC because I am PAL but I doubt they change a players ratings. I own HC 09 and yes they did have different ratings based on the scheme they were in, like sniperhare said. An undersized DE immediately took a dive in ratings when playing on a 3-4 team. And Peyton Manning would have an awful OVR rating if you converted him to FB, even Madden is able to handle that.

100% right! If madden franchise mode could add half of HC09 it will be 100 times better. IMOHow can you say that when you haven't even played HC?!

If you put manning in an spread options system his ovr will go down to around 70.Comment

i think that the current depth chart system (and to a lesser extent the roster management system) is completely out of date & needs to be revised.
it didnt matter as much before, but as the game continues to get deeper they are gonna need to make little changes like this to help reflect the impact of the various systems used in game.this band is pretty cool. u should check them out: http://www.myspace.com/revolutionofthedeadComment

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
I was talking about Madden with that Manning example just forgot to say so. The first thing I said was I hadn't played HC I just didn't think they would change player ratings as that doesn't make much sense to me. I was wrong thanks for correcting me.How can you say that when you haven't even played HC?!

When R.Seymour went from end in the 3-4 to the 4-3 he didn't become weaker or faster just his run stopping and his bull rushing ability wasn't as useful at end in the 4-3. The only attributes that should go down are awarness and overall. Like I said with Manning if he is moved to fullback his passing ability doesn't go down it's just for fb overall rating rblk and impact block and such make up the overall. Manning would still be the same player. The only problem with Madden and defensive schemes is it doesn't differentiate between 3-4 and 4-3 players so it has the same criteria for the overall for all Ends, Dt's and LineBackers. Sorry if my first post wasn't clear.Comment

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
They also need to re-edit the players on their 3-4 and 4-3 playbooks. For example Haloti Ngata is 6'4 345 lbs and plays mostly LDE in the 3-4 with some NT here and there but when they go to a 4 down lineman he gets kicked inside to DT. On the Ravens play book they have about 3 formations with 4 down linemen and in all of them he plays DE not DT.
So I have to switch over to the other team and manually change him in the formation. The defensive playbooks need to be more team specific not just X + Y + Z formations for [insert team here] and X + W + Z formations for [insert another team here].

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
In the old PS2 versions, they always had a global substitutions option. It worked well as you could go through each formation and assign players where you wanted them. Combined with custom packages, I'd rarely ever touch the depth chart in season. Not sure why EA doesn't bring that back.

although i still think the depth chart system needs revamping, the re-addition of custom packages would drastically help managing players during the game. i could live without formation subs as long as custom packages were in.In the old PS2 versions, they always had a global substitutions option. Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
This is not something that is wanted... this is something that is NEEDED.
They really need to press the 4-3/3-4 issue, especially with many teams now running the hybrid defense using both sets. There definitely needs to be a depth chart for both, as well as a depth chart for special teams coverage. If my #5 WR is 6'4/220 and has 80 speed, why the hell would I want him as a flier on kicks?Comment

Madden limits you to a 55 man roster, but does not allow you to use the entire team as most 'special team players' aren't on special teams. This is not something that is wanted... this is something that is NEEDED.

I wrote a post about it a long time ago, because it was killing my franchise (I played a 3-4 team). I had plenty of extra special team players (MLBs with good speed with high tackle rating), who did not play on special teams at all. At the same time I had my starting MLB (2nd on depth chart in a 3-4), FB, TE and more on special teams covering kick-offs etc.
The ability to use your entire roster with the implementation of a new depth chart system would be a brilliant addition to Madden 11, but I'm not holding my breath.Comment

Re: madden 11 should add a 3-4 and 4-3 dept chart
Well said. Almost every 3-4 team uses their DEs as DTs in passing situations. And of course the OLBs are usually the Rush Ends. They also need to re-edit the players on their 3-4 and 4-3 playbooks. This type of realism is really needed.Twitter: @Palo50
