I can not stop Wes Welker

every time i play against NE (cpu) i get killed by Welker. I've tried zone, press, double. I tried Asomugha on him...
I can't figure it out. in my latest game he has 8 catches for 100 yards in the 1st quarter. i use tough sliders, but geez, nobody else beats me up like Welker. any suggestions?


by the way, anybody notice when you do a defensive assignment (ex. Aso on Welker), and you are in nickle coverage, your LBs go out wide to cover the wrs?

Its because he IS just that good....Does it IRL as well. Seems realistic to me.

The Pats are hard to stop with any team, but the Raiders really only have one cover DB (Aso, obvs). Your safeties aren't the best and your LB's are better at run support than coverage. That said, 8 for 100 in the 1st quarter is absurd - gotta be some missed tackles involved.

Assuming default rosters, here's how I'd gameplan for the Pats v Raiders:

Assign Asomughua to Moss
Double-team Welker, especially on passing downs
Don't rush more than four

Granted, that really limits your calls on defense, but 1. I'd rather have Welker go 8 for 100 and 1TD than Moss go 4 for 200 and 4 TD's, which is what he'll do if you leave him in single coverage, 2. their run game is not going to beat you, and 3. your LB's can handle their secondary receiving options. Double-teaming Welker will at least put two guys near him at all times, making it less likely he'll break a tackle and burn you on a short pass.

You're at a severe talent disadvantage, though, so any scheme you come up with is gonna leave some pretty big holes. Good luck.

i started dropping a LB on him as a manual double team and came up with a pick 6. yay for me.
still, even when he has good coverage on him, Brady force feeds him and he comes away with the catch.

I dropped Champ Bailey on him all game, that helped keep him in check.

How is he at beating the press? Can always try and play a Press Cover 2, and control the safety over top.

If I can hold to him 8 receptions and 100 yards...I am happy...he will get his almost no matter what you do.

And that happens in the NFL. Dude averages 100 catches last 3 years!!!

I win the game with a minute left in OT 27-24, but, holy cow.
Welker goes for 22 catches and 220 yards with 0 TDs.

i finally knocked him out of the game with 3 min left in OT.
i tried EVERYTHING to stop him and nothing worked. I'd have a tight double team on him and have him trapped against the sidelines and Brady would still fire it his way. Bubble screens, everything. It was ridiculous.

Congratulations, neither can the rest of the NFL. If you want to put Nnamdi on him ,go ahead. Moss isn't the monster he was in other games, at least I haven't seen it, or been able to abuse Moss either. That doesn't mean he is bad, he just isn't a monster [imo.]

Just like real life, you kind of have to be willing to give up the short stuff, and sadly, the Patriots are happy to take the short stuff from you all game long. Also, if Brady sees you giving up on a big play to stop something short, he will do his best to punish you for it.

We playing NE, the real goal is to do what the Ravens did and just dominate that now weak [retired] defense. FORCE the Pats to score with you. Use ball control to try and limit their possessions. I am again assuming you are using the raiders. Use Bush and Run DMC up and down the field all game long.

thats seems a little high maybe 12 catches but 22 damn way too many

Aso on welker and chris jhonson on moss with hlp from huff over da top works best

yep, that's what i did. Moss wasn't a factor at all. Like 4 catches for 36 yrds.

i had Aso follow him. he was usually in the slot. doubling with Huff did nothing. Brady treated him like he was wide open. the only thing that even slowed him down was dropping a DE or LB into the short middle and trying to shadow him while Aso chased him around.
i tried everything and that was the only tactic that even phased the Patriots. It was like every snap was Welker's play. i've been playing Madden since like 1993 and I'd just never come across such a dominant guy controlled by the computer.
kinda reminded me of what Bo was like in Tecmo Bowl. unstoppable.
