Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
Interesting article. One major issue that I've had with franchise for years is the un-realistic resigning bonuses and the amount of money it takes to sign rookies and FA. I'm not sure the process needs to be harder. It just needs to be more realistic like the value's of certain players based on age and other players at their same position relating to their monetary worth (Reggie Bush).
Obviously some players are willing to stay with a team for less money because they are driven by championship hopes. It sounds from the interview like they know there is a problem with the salary cap but they don't know how to fix it?Comment

I thought that comment was interesting because since the implementation of Dynasty/Franchise mode gamers have requested this- so EA only thought of this themselves five years ago.Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
I actually talked to Josh about this and he says they get it. The improved cut and sign logic should be the first step towards them making major strides and improvement in this area. Believe me I expressed the same sentiment and how hard it becomes to resign those guys. I got the sense that they will only improve this feature, with the new logic if Ivory and Thomas perform the Saints won't just keep Bush "just because", they are more apt to cut ties with him. It was a fun interview.Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
I'm disappointed that the combine, pro-days and individual work outs aren't interactive. I mean it's not a deal breaker, but damn... I understand, I guess it eventually will be in but how long will that take? Another 5-7 years? Or will it not be in till next gen? I'm still excited about franchise after this article but everything I have read(pretty much every article and blog) has lead me to believe that you actually got to play with the rookies while running through these events/features. If I think about it I guess they were just being VARY VAGUE... Am I alone in this?Dallas CowboysSan Antonio SpursTexas RangersBaylor Bears Iowa Hawkeyes Texas LonghornsComment

Dont they realize that the NFL off-season should be deeper than the in-season. Looks like another year button pressing right through the off-season.Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
This is why I might not buy this game, what is the point to having the combine, pro-day, and individual workouts in if you cant play them, other wise its just random, you press a button, and hope for the best.

That being said, it's nice that scouting is being expanded. And if you think about the combine, it's really just a collection of stats anyways. How fast, how high, how many reps, etc. You can toss a graphical representation of that if you want. In the end, no GM or coach gets to test-drive a potential rookie. They get to watch what they can do. So for the combine, I don't really think there's a gaping hole.
I think they could do something similar to the NHL series and possibly have the Senior bowl, and you can play that game. But what are you going to do about scouting college kids during the season? You can't really expect the dev team to essentially include NCAA 12 inside Madden 12. I know we want more, but there's reality and it differs from the dreams we have. NFL scouts serve a key role for coaches and GMs.
Therefore, I'm happy with what I'm getting, which is a ton more than what I had. Franchise mode is getting some action, and I'm going to have a lot more to do. Previously, I sorted my scouting window by potential and marked the top players. In the draft, if I saw a player who had stats revealed, I knew he was a high potential player. That's just too easy!Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
I really hope he was kidding when he said this. Since I am old, I played a game back in the mid 80s that had DPP in it. It was called Bases Loaded II by Jaleco. It had DPP in it as you went through a season. Guys would go through hot and cold streaks. Here we are 26 years later and these guys are saying they thought of this?! Please tell me that is a joke...Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
You guys have obviously not played NFL Head Coach 09. It's not just random. If you're good at scouting, you use one set of information at one level to determine who you continue scout at the next level. You narrow down who you want to continue to scout based on what you see from in-season scouting....i.e. which players possess the skill sets or whatever you're looking for.Comment

Older players will sign one year deals for lower money and after the regular season starts the free agents will sign one year minimum contracts. So we don't have to pay 1.8 Mill for a QB for one game.Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
This interview actually made me slightly less excited about franchise mode, but I guess that's because it focused mostly on the stuff I'm less excited about. It just reminds me that there's still a long way to go before franchise mode is even close to what I consider perfect.
And I guess we're still not going to have the college stats for the draft players? Real NFL teams seem to use college stats just as much as combine stats to choose which players to draft. Also, it would be nice if eventually we could play or at least sim a college all-star game to get a feel for the top players' abilities on the field.Comment

Re: Interview w/ Josh Looman: Franchise Mode
Glad they are working on Franchise, but the one thing that bothered me from the article was when Josh had been lobbying to get rid of the easy "potential" scouting and make it more challenging, the rest of the team was against it, saying (paraphrasing), "no, keep it easy, we want the players to feel a sense of satisfaction".
What? Come on, those guys should know better than that by now. EXTREMELY disappointing. Hello EA, the satisfaction and fun comes from having to actually scout and do a little digging and then winding up with a good draft. Not "Ok, I'll take all these guys with high potential...Whee, I got a good draft!"
If I were alone in a room with Phil, I would severely take him to task on this one. They should know better by now. They just should. This speaks to the whole "the consumer can't handle anything, we should hold their hands" mentality so that they can get little Timmy to bug mommy and daddy to buy the game.
Thank goodness for Josh. I wonder what other battles he's had to fight, and what we're getting now DESPITE the rest of the team.Comment

And relating to a few other posts; it's interesting how volatile your interest and excitement for Madden is.Comment
