Will running every be the same in ea gamesI look back at the ps2 days and man did we have it good..You had player momentum agility and acceleration all come into play realistically...but those days are over and i have been waiting desperately for it to get back to that...i dont hear people complaining about it so im just wondering have they accepted the way players move on the field? The sliding..players turning on a dime..i mean seriously this is a BIG chunk of the gameplay thats technically broken. Im not here to bash ea at all..but this is the only option of a football game i have.. Who else am i supposed to go too if i want this right? so i am just asking have ppl accepted the way it is?Tags: None

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

NCAA doesn't bother me as much for some reason... maybe because I generally love college football more..

Madden on the other hand last year to me was unplayable. Being a falcons fan and relying on Turner I just couldn't play it.. I bought it and a week later sold it. I tried my best but it felt broken, the whole game did.

Unless they are somehow able to implement FIFA's system into M13 I doubt we will it until Madden 14 which will most likely be on the next gen systems.Last edited by PVarck31; 06-19-2011, 12:54 AM.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

It frustrates me but I've come to deal with it.

I can play as Adrian Peterson and go game after game with no broken tackles but I could play against the Lions and Jahvid Best will truck stick my linebackers and then things like this happen with computer running backs:

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

FIFA is no better, newer tech or not. On futbol related message boards, it is hammered just like Madden is here for its lack of realistic momentum and turn on a dime movements. It may be better then Madden in that regard, but still far from realistic. All EA games have this issue, it seems.I just don't see this happening until next gen. I just don't think the current tech will allow such a drastic change in player movement.

It's quite sad really to read some of the comments of Ian and Adem in the other thread about how the lack of tech has held this series (Madden) back. Hard to believe that EA Sports either didn't/doesn't have the funds to invest in proper technology to drive their games or didn't have the foresight from the top of the management chain to dedicate resources to this area. Whatever the reason, it has hurt their product in a big way.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

I think it is possible with the current tech. The devs just don't want to implement it. They believe gamers want the user control that comes with the way the players move now.I just don't see this happening until next gen. I just don't think the current tech will allow such a drastic change in player movement.

Both 2k and EA go to extremes in this area. 2k uses long animations and has a very realistic looking game but the controls can feel sluggish at times. EA has opted for short animations and the players react much quicker but the game looks very twitchy and unrealistic.

I wish EA would lengthen the animations a bit (but not to the extreme of APF 2k8) and sacrifice a little control for a game that looks smoother but I think they fear a backlash from the community.

I'm really having a hard time getting interested in Madden 12 when I see this. It's something I can't ignore, but in order to play EA's brand of football you have to because they have no intention of changing it, imo.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

You'd think EA would fear the backlash they get year after year due to the twitchy animations. I always have been annoyed with how quickly players change direction, turn on a dime, etc...so unrealistic. Just waiting for that exclusive rights to NFL and NCAA football to expire so EA will have some competition that forces them to step their game up. I feel like every year they put off key changes with the thought that we can do it next year. With competition they will have to fix things now or suffer consumers buying the other football game out there.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

It's funny when the PS3 was the next gen, games were only supposed to get better. I mean better technology better games right? then we get games that are worse and worse every year. I am not sure I wanna see what the PS4 game might look like if they cant even get these right and they have been trying for what, 5 years now? the only thing that got better was video resolution and graphics. player movements and gameplay went in the toilet.I just don't see this happening until next gen. I just don't think the current tech will allow such a drastic change in player movement.

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

Am I alone in saying that running the ball in last gen frustrated me? I LOVE running the ball in M11. Last gen, I would get so irritated with my lead blockers that I would stop playing Madden for a week. I couldn't stand the poor run-block logic and how my pulling guard would ignore the on-coming DE just so he can get to the LB.

In M11 and NCAA11, running the ball is nice. Follow my blockers, I understand where they're going, etc. Combine this with some of the momentum changes coming for M12 and NCAA12, along with the new tackling, and I'll be in running-game heaven.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

It's not just the running man. Take a look at this video of Madden 04. I must be loosing my mind, because to me, that game looks amazing. I remember it was 05 that made me try NFL 2k5 again. Madden 05 on was never the same to me. Don't believe me? Look at this video. Tell me this game doesnt look good if it had a some added polygons and HD 1080p render!I look back at the ps2 days and man did we have it good..You had player momentum agility and acceleration all come into play realistically...but those days are over and i have been waiting desperately for it to get back to that...i dont hear people complaining about it so im just wondering have they accepted the way players move on the field? Love that DB that just stood there and watched the ball sail over his head for a TD. And that point where the Bucs TE makes a catch, turns on a dime, and runs for a TD while a bunch of Panthers aimlessly run around was sweet. It's not just the running man. Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

Nothing to do with a tech issue. Plenty of sports games these days and on last gen -- 2K hockey for example -- incorporate or incorporated realistic player momentum. All of EA's games have turn-on-a-dime player physics. Purely a game design and development choice they make, apparently.I just don't see this happening until next gen. I just don't think the current tech will allow such a drastic change in player movement.

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

lol. To each their own. I personally would like to have had this game, with Madden 12's textures. We are just now getting physics pylons, ball physics, etc..and in this video we have both, sweet sideline catches are in this video, in madden 04 we can choose what to challenge, madden 04 we have real helmets in the pro bowl, Madden 04 much better running....if you don't believe so, look at all the many forums of the majority posts here.Love that DB that just stood there and watched the ball sail over his head for a TD. And that point where the Bucs TE makes a catch, turns on a dime, and runs for a TD while a bunch of Panthers aimlessly run around was sweet.

I could go on and on forever. If you don't think these are important features, then why is EA just now getting them in the game the last 2 years and advertised as main features?

Obviously, this game is from 2003. So its going to look like it. But you are telling me you arent spotting things right and left we don't have in Madden 11, and possibly 12?

Regarding your comments....whats changed in this generation of Madden in those regards? Seams like they still do the same things to me.....but I did like the fact in 2004 physics were respected, even if they didn't do a perfect job with it.Last edited by wheelman990; 06-20-2011, 04:59 PM.Comment

Re: Will running every be the same in ea games

I think part of the problem is they kept the same coding from the old gens and just wrote code over it to get it transfer to next gen consoles. That resulted in a bunch of stuff not working and EA had to rewrite the codes to bring back old stuff and try to get it to work properly.

So ultimately, we are playing on the some of the same coding from ps2/xbox instead of coding written specifically for next gen consoles. I think thats why many of the next gen games(shooters, rpgs, etc) have had so many improvements while some games just seem to "spin their tires" and not make too many major advancements. It took EA two instalments to rewrite Madden franchise(if the excuses of taking a year off for the most part to improve it is true).

So instead of coding the game specifically for next gen, they are still plagued and hampered by old gen coding.Comment
