    New CBA

Does anyone think that the Madden team will be able to implement at least the basics of the new CBA (free agency, salary cap, etc.) if the CBA is released mid-July as expected? (Of course, if the CBA is delayed, than this isn't a reasonable thing to do, but if the CBA is released mid-July, that would give the Madden team at least a week or two to add some of the basic rules to the final build)

I'm not sure if this is plausible in the constricted time-frame, but it would be nice.

    Re: New CBA

I'd venture to say no sir. They can't add those sort of intricacies into the game at this point in the cycle. Really, it may not even be necessary. I don't think the changes in the new CBA are going to be DRASTICALLY different from what we'll get in Madden -- maybe aside from the rookie wage scale.

I don't know that it's that farfetched. They could be writing the code already based on rumor and reports. Probably not, but maybe...

I highly doubt it. New salary cap rules, free agency rules, etc would need to be tested and I just don't think enough time will exist.

            Re: New CBA

Yeah...wishful thinking. Even if they tried to implement the new rules, they'd have zero time to test any of it.

Maybe with a patch? I don't think it'd be that big of a change.

A patch seems plausible and would be nice. It wouldn't be that big of a file; it's just some code changes and additions.

I don't think we're really in a position to minimize how much work this could possibly be.

We can expect rules similar to last year's game, and I don't expect it to be all that impacting on the game until the next year or two when perhaps contracts become more complex and we get to deal with things like the cap floor.

Well it would definitely be possible to design the code in a way that it wouldn't be much work to, for example, adjust the formula used to calculate the salary cap either shortly before release or later by patch.

On the other hand, we've got no idea what the code looks like so this is nothing but a guessing game.
You gotta have Hope! (My Minnesota Vikings franchise)

After an incredible 2012 season ends with a Super Bowl win, Hope Turner and her Vikings are trying to prove that their performance was more than just a one-shot.

Yup, would love to think this kind of stuff is configuration files, small and easily patched, but it could be in the primary application, which is not so easily changed post-release.

10mb patches have forced 6gb+ downloads on Steam because games were not compatible with the way Steam updates games.

I would love if they could do that. I would like to think that they have had their ear to the ground on this and left themselves some wiggle room via patch (I doubt a tuner update would do it.). I think the biggest problem would be testing it for bugs, because EA would never hear the end of it if a bug made franchise unplayable.

Not sure but I don't think the CBA will have a huge impact on Madden. The rookie salary scale and cap limits (both max and minimum) probably wont be too far off either.

                            Re: New CBA

considering that they never accurately implemented the details of the last couple of CBA's why would they make special patches to account for this one?

                            practice squads
                            exclusive rights free agents
                            restricted free agents
                            transition tags
                            PUP
players on IR do not count against roster limits
                            53-man rosters
                            45-man active rosters
                            supplemental draft

all of these are things that are part of the CBA and have been lacking in Madden....
