Re: Bears vs Packers
Re: Bears vs Packers
Early in this video you see a pair of slants by the split end and the slot receiver, with the defense in a cover two. The split end runs his slant and receives attention from the CB over him, the S on his side of the field and the defender over the slot receiver.
By contrast, the slot receiver receives attention very late in the play and only from the middle linebacker. This is what makes it too easy to pass over the middle in Madden. The defender over the slot receiver is not presented with any other routes that might confuse or threaten his area. He simply does not play the slant route correctly, leaving a huge window for the quarterback to get the ball to him. Moreover, his default movement seems to be outward rather than toward his most immediate threat.
I don't think that good zone defense means that this pass should not be completed ever, but I do think that the windows need to be shrunk when it comes to those passes over the middle. -

Re: Bears vs Packers
I don't see improved coverage. The slants and drag routes that were way too money in M11 are still there. Throwing to the middle should be harder because defenses are keyed in on that, protecting that area of the field the most, seeing as the QBs eyes naturally look downfield (the middle) and where safeties and LBs are all generally facing the QB and reading his eyes.Kilroy was hereComment

Re: Bears vs Packers
If you played the NCAA Demo, you would notice the middle is a lot harder to throw into this year. We haven't seen the Madden Demo, so, I'm holding out that the Demos will be similar, if not more polished in Madden.I don't see improved coverage. Money slants that worked last year in Madden were not even close in the Demo with NCAA.Comment

Let me get this straight, you're basing this on ONE minute of a youtube video from an earlier build of an unfinished game?I don't see improved coverage. Re: Bears vs Packers
Well, yes of course I'm basing it off that. Seeing as that's what's being presented/shown in the video clip! (action from E3 build).
Between now and demo release and then game release, I'll state opinions based off of those, naturally. I can't see into the future.
It's the same with all my other comments (and others' comments) about lateral ice-skating and QB speed. Do you jump down their throats when they criticize that, with "let me get this straight, you're basing this off an early e3 build?!"
It's all critique and observation BASED OFF what we have so far. Constructive criticism and/or requests to have stuff changed and improved before release.Last edited by GGEden; 07-08-2011, 12:47 PM.Kilroy was hereComment

Re: Bears vs Packers
Sorry I just get tired of all the people saying, it's the same game or nothing's changed based off of what they are seeing in a short video. Constructive criticism on the other hand is good and what devs are looking for to improve the game before release. I do know the majority of the commentary improvements were made after E3, but they are using some of the same lines from last year along with the new ones.Well, yes of course I'm basing it off that. Gus is one of the best in the business, thank God they invested in a new commentary engine this year and we should begin seeing the benefits of that starting next year and the following years. The problem is the tech engine they have had for commentary not Gus. I have NFL Sunday Ticket and if the Packers aren't playing I always try to find which game he's announcing, he's a legend.Comment

It's cool. I also apologize if I barked back harshly. Just know, I'm not one to just mouth off anti-EA etc. Most of what I post is intended as constructive criticism and/or suggestions. There are always going to be flaws, or things that can be improved, in all games. Notice I lamented the coverage, then mentioned a suggestion to key the defense more to protect the middle. Not just a throw-away grr line with nothing else offered.Sorry I just get tired of all the people saying, it's the same game or nothing's changed based off of what they are seeing in a short video. Gus sounds like he needs to do wrestling play by play not football. He is so artificial it isn't even funny. Let Chris do it all and give me the option to turn off Mr. WWE guy.Gus is one of the best in the business, thank God they invested in a new commentary engine this year and we should begin seeing the benefits of that starting next year and the following years. Have you ever even watched Gus do an NFL game or during the NCAA tournament? He sounds WAY better in real life games.Comment
