my favorite that I used to play over and over again was madden 03, I think it was becasue they finally took that step up and fixed the defence that year we were not seeing shootout scores I think it was the Rams greatest show on turf era that people wanted at the time then the change came, and Houston Texans franchise came in that year. The first I ever played was 93 and that will always be one of my favorites because its how I started playing it and grew up as a kid with it.
Worst
Madden 04 and 09 04. was a step down from 03 If I could remember right it went back to the 02 01 days, and the whole Vick breaking his leg thing drama drained it out. 09 I had major freezing issues on the Ps3 I could hardly complete a game ever and most people had this problem too, I think it was for those that had the championship edition special boxset thing.
The game would freeze and freeze when the game was finished, I got so frustrated that year and gave up.
The last 2 years have been really good the adding of being about to have every uniform and switch pants etc, that stopped people like me from whinging our heads off about them getting it wrong (eg Rams Gold pants not white etc)
Now this year fixing up IR expanding Rosters, and many other small things they are fixing I think this year might just be the best I have hopes for.
