Last year I went to my Gamestop at midnight without pre-ordering. This year I pre-ordered and paid it off fully earlier today. This was the first year I ever preordered. The guy told me I can get my voucher after 11pm tonight. Will getting my voucher at 11 hold my spot in line so I can come back at midnight with my spot in line saved?

Call the store and ask. Each store is different, what they do is dependant on that store manager and who will be working that night. -

depends, ive seen it done two different ways
two years ago when i went, they required us to come in after 10pm and complete the transaction for the game (as if i was finalizing the purchase, but not walking away with the game in hand). And then they gave us a number according to when we came in to finish the transaction, and when people started lining up following the festivities (around 11:45ish), we were able to get in line based on the number we had on our receipt.
last year (at a newer gamestop), they required the same process as far as completing the transaction, but didnt assign us line numbers, and made it a basically first come first serve line.
But of course, in both situations, everybody who got a game had their game fully paid for before midnight. So once midnight hit, it was:
-Stand in line
-Walk in store
-Show "stamped" receipt
-Walk out with brand spankin new copy of the gameComment

At my place last year they gave out a ticket (like a raffle ticket) and would call out a certain amount of numbers to come in and get the game. Those who pre-ordered went first by who got their the earliest.
You get there, either pay off Madden or get a voucher showing it was previously paid off, then at Midnight they open up the doors.Comment

with mine everyone just lines up outside, at 12 they open the doors and we just give em our name/number or receipt when we preordered. They look it up and you either pay off the rest (if you haven't already) and grab your copy.
I'm in a small town though and I think the biggest midnight release I ever saw was for Mass Effect 2 and there was like 20 or so ppl there.Comment

The bigger the city usually means the bigger the crowd. As long as I get there before they close up shop it takes about 5 minutes to get my game.
I can see in places like Atlanta having to arrive fairly early unless you wanna wait around for a while.Comment

has 1 line for preorders and another line for people who didnt preorder madden
and they have pop hotdogs chips all that good stuff just for picking up the game at midnightComment

At my local GS they usually have everyone form a line at the door as they arrive. Then around 11:30 they will ask for everyone who hasn't paid for their pre-order in full to enter the store finish payment. After you pay you simply return to your spot in line. Then after everyone has paid they normally do a raffle or two (usually a copy of the game everyone is in line for lol), then at midnight they have people come into the store two or three at a time (depending on # of employees) and hand out copies.
The biggest line I've seen at a midnight release was for GTA4 (100 people plus or minus), smallest was Socom4 / Protal2 / Mortal Kombat (21 people).NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
