I should NEVER go for a pick when I press 'Swat'

That has to be one of the most infuriating gameplay flaws this game has. I willl be on an island and want to make the safe play and swat the ball down only to have my db choose the worst possible catch animation and allow the WR to make the grab.

Even worse. Occasionally the DB will do nothing at all....makes no sense.

I have 2 agree with you 100%, makes no sense. If I press LB, I WANT A SWAT not a pic. If I wanted a pic, I would press that button.

Just press and hold the A button next time instead of pressing the swat button

I'm going to try this out to see if it actually works (X for us because we have PS3s). I didn't think it would actually work out too well.

What am trying to say is instead of pressing the swat button select the defense assist button the cpu will asssit you in swating the ball, they will never go for a pic

man, I NEVER thought of that lol. All those times of trying to strafe just to get in position to make a play on the ball, and I could have been pressing X to have the CPU help me..

IS not that easy if you got a bad player with lacking awr the cpu will take bad routes to the ball the only 2 time i recommend it is when you want to do a good wrap up tackle as you hold left trigger or the strafe button for ps3 players make sure you squared up and in good position for a tackle then hold A it will wrap him no need to hitstick on every play, And other is when you in position to swat the the ball hold A and bingo the cpu never miss

No, I meant on the long bombs when the only player that can make a play is the safety or corner that is all alone with the receiver. When you press swat, the defender will just do some stupid animation and let the WR catch the ball...Or you press interception, and your defender kinda just throws his hands up in the air for a quick second and that happens like 2 seconds before the ball even gets there because you are trying to account for the lag lol.

Does defensive assist only work on levels below all madden? i lab this all the time an the second i press A (xbox 360) it makes the defender stop moving all together

I haven't played on all madden yet but defensive assist worked last year on all madden, Make sure you in a good position and keep going that way don't stop running pretend the assist button swat button make sure hold it down

hmm sounds kinda cheap, but then again when im playing great D and a long bomb is given up when i should be able to stop it is cheap also....might as well try

You know what's worse??? Setting up for a pick and a linebacker or DB sneaks in at the last second and swats the ball away from you.

I feel you're pain. I've given up some big plays because there really is no swat button. You either go for the pick, or press ( what should be the swat button) and roll the dice.

I don't know where you guys are going with this Defensive assist argument. It's pretty simple. The game is designed to have a Swat button and an Intercept button. They actually took the time to WASTE an extra button to make a distinction between the two.

There is no logical reason why you should ever have a Swat animation occur when you hit Intercept, or why you should ever get an Intercept animation when you hit Swat.

What is the point of having two buttons if you get what ever the AI feels like giving you? The answer is, there is no point.

This is an instance of bad programming and, perhaps, even worse design. There is no arguing that.
