    NFL License

Does the NFL License expire this year and if so what are the chances that 2k will make a run for it?

No, EA has the license till next year and 2k would need a ton of cash to outdo EA for the license.

    Currently, 2k's stock is low.

I am praying EA does not renew the NFL license for more years. Honestly, I have almost givin up on football games, to the point that I almost don't even care about them anymore. I never would have thought that was possible back in 2005.

I don't care if it's 2K or even Activision bidding on it to serve a massive blow to EA, I'm ready for something totally different at this point.

I'm just looking for competition to come in, but I don't feel it will happen.

I don't want a massive blow to EA, I just want healthy competition. Hated the exclusive license when it first came out, only to get bashed by EA fanboys. Exclusive license has just been horrible for NFL Video Game football. Just make it go away so we can have EA plus whoever else.

I'm not an EA *****, and I'm enjoying the game for the most part... even though the more I play it, the more some nagging flaws become more apparent. But I'd like to see what another company would to with the license. It's like roadman said, though, it's pretty doubtful at this point, because the NFL has made it pretty apparent how they want to do business. They want one company and one company only to hold a license and even at a King's ransom, there is no way EA allows its flagship title to go away.

Completely agree. I just want some competition so we can stop this "We'll fix one thing each year" since they know there is no one that can make anything better.

I just feel like EA starts to do something good then stops and sends out an unfinished product with the thought that they'll get to the rest next year. Like this year I felt they made great strides towards creating a solid game with a pretty good offline franchise mode, but what happened to the commentary? They could have picked up a couple of guys on the street to do better commentary than we get in Madden 12.

I guess I should clarify. I don't want a massive blow to EA, I'm just saying that would probably be Activision's motivation, and it'd be fine with me if that's their strategic decision if it means we get a fresh start with a football franchise. I'm not an EA *****.

Licenses have screwed sports gamers. Look at the successful sports titles: NHL, NBA 2K, and FIFA....none of these have licenses to one company and all of them are thriving. NBA and NHL only have one game right now, but it still gives them concern the other team might come up with a great game, making them focus on it more. To me, EA has slacked big time with Madden and NCAA, and 2K just can't seem to do anything right with MLB 2K. NFL, NCAA and MLB should just follow suit with the NBA and NHL and let anyone create a game. To me, until then, the games with licenses will just be what were dealing with now, just ok.

The problem is, according to a former MVP developer at EA, the NFL makes more money with a single license vs multiple licenses. Until the NFL changes it's way of doing business, gamers might be stuck.

                      Time will tell.

                        Re: NFL License

I guess I'm in the minority but I really don't get all the complaining over this years game as opposed to the last few iterations. I genuinely think that this game was a huge step in the right direction and that future iterations are going to only improve on the foundation set by 12. I think 12 is the best football game I've played and that's with the apparent flaws, so I'm really looking forward to 13. Plus programming isn't that easy, a lot of things can't get fixed because it breaks something else so a lot of time goes into testing and finding out how to fix the problem without breaking another feature.

Anyway, folks, that's my 2 cents.

Our only hope is that EA doesn't wish to go forward with an exclusive license once this one is up. I doubt Activision cares about the football market. They have yet to show any interest in the license. One sign that EA may not want the license is that they only extended for one year when they could have easily extended it for more. It's not like the NFL was going to say no.

EA's sales haven't increased due to the exclusive license. They actually sold more without it.

Agree with everything here except we don't know what is going on behind closed doors. I'm sure the info will be tight until there is a resolution of going forward or not.

My guess is EA will ask the NFL to lower the price and it's up to the NFL if they choose to do that. It will be interesting to see where the negotiating takes us.
