Is the saftey position important to you?

I used to think that safeties is the most useless position in the defensive side in madden because I could still get a ton of INT's with low rating safeties like Rashad Jones, Marcus Gillchrist, etc.

    UNTIL recently,

I played with the ravens a few times online and then Ed Reed proved me wrong. The guy made hits/tackles left & right, and whenever the ball came towards his way it was a guaranteed pick. Even when i wasn't controlling, thanks to his high awareness i could trust the A.I to make a play with him.

Im starting to believe there is a major difference of performance between a high rated safety and a low rated one.

So my question is do you value safeties just as much as CBS, D-line and LB's?

Definitely. Usually my safeties are the most important playmakers on my team in Madden. Speed/coverage for my FS, and Pursuit/tackling for the SS.

Re: Is the saftey position important to you?

Safeties, especially FS, always seem to involve themselves a lot in my games.

Reed is more a tackler than a ball hawk a lot of times. Tanard Jackson on TB is the same way.

I think safeties are important. That's why I hate the Ravens' SS. They SUCK. They get burnt deep, don't make picks, and are only decent tacklers, and that's with Zbikowski being a big hitter.

Ray Lewis covers people better than the strong safeties on this team. I hate it.

Nahh. Check his stats out. Ed Reed has 82 catch or something and 93 jumping which is defiantly a center fielder type safety.

Haha as a ravens fan i totally agree with you. Im not a Zbikowski fan.

Yeah because of Ray's high awareness you don't even need to control him, which is why i control with reed.

Has anyone tried T.J ward out? would you take him over Tanard Jackson at SS?

Yeah, I know he's rated like a ball hawk, but a lot of times, he's getting in there in run support too - sometimes in the top 3 in tackles (though some of that is tackling WR).

I don't blitz him either (want him patrolling those deep zones). It might be his AWR doing that too - he's sees run coming toward his edge and he comes up to try to stop it.

Very true, Reed is an underrated tackler. He might not finish the play by tackling the ballcarrier but he's always one of the first to slow him down in any play. Also he's a fearless tackler despite his size. At least in real life.

TJ Ward is a monster in this game. True enforcer at safety, he's not bad in coverage either.

If you're using the Ravens, try to pick up Taylor Mays. He's not rated that high, but his sped and size make him a great Strong Safety. He's built a lot likeSean Taylor (R.I.P.) and hits like a truck. His catching and awareness aren't great, but he's as big as a linebacker with CB speed, so he can be a great 8th man in the box, a good blitzer and has the speed to help out in deep coverage. You can start him over whoever your current SS is.

Re: Is the saftey position important to you?

I had a franchise where I couldn't get a safety upgrade for years. I let Elam go after year 1 and kept Sensabaugh. The free agency period provided no alternative to my back up Barry Church so I made sure that I went into the draft looking for my new starting SS.

However, my number 1 option had an injury rating in the 50's and my number 2 option was a 1st round pick that was projected in the top 10. I was devastated and went with my 3rd choice. He turned out to have a C potential and wasn't able to tackle.

Barry Church still has the starting position 4 years later. He has played above his rating for me and I've spent my time retooling my defensive ends, lolb, and free safety position as well as the oline and running back position. Maybe after this season I'll be replacing Church.
Treat a person as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a person as if he were where he could be and should be, and he will become what he could be and should be.

Yeah, I picked him up. So far, I'm liking how he plays. I think he'll get better as he matures his AWR as well. Traded Mr. Clueless Pollard. Man, I can't stand Pollard in this game - and probably not good in real life either.

Trying to figure out how to use him because I'm used to just making Jarret Johnson do a lot and playing like I have a 10-man defense.

probably 80% of my INTs come from safties. if i ever do fantasy drafts the first two rounds always go to safties.

I love having Troy as a saftey, he makes big plays always is in on the tackle and one time I was down 14 he forced a fumble I scored then the next drive he picked it off and I tied the game right before the half

I use the Broncos and their 2nd round pick this year, FS Rahim Moore out of UCLA is awesome in the game. Makes tons of plays for me. I get a lot of picks with him.
