    Madden 13 Camera & graphics

    Please watch in HD

Anyone else feel like these cameras were by far the best yet on current gen? Why did they get rid of this? Back in 06 I remember people hated the player model shapes, and also the running animations, but I dont remember a single person who didnt love the cam and how it showed off this gen graphics. IMO it took the best of Backbreak and Madden and put them into one cam.

I am all for a custom cam, but does anyone else feel this is a cam that needs to be back in Madden 13? Also, am I alone or does Madden 06 have far superior graphic shading, textures, grass fields, sideline players, etc? I realize there are no referee's, and player faces were not spot on due to its first installment, but based on just graphics and not model shapes, animations,etc.....am I loosing it to think its graphically superior? Interested in your opinions, and thx!

I wouldn't mind a custom cam, but I really love the stadium specific cameras this year.

Cant say I agree with you, although custom cameras are always good. I do miss the no-huddle audible signals though.
        Have an awesome day!!

Re: Madden 13 Camera & graphics

While I agree OP that the initial field level view before the snap is better because it adds immersion, imo, the feeling about the other stuff may be nostalgia. Not meaning you literally wish for 2005 again but maybe that feeling of Madden 2006 was the start of something potentially exciting for NFL simulation gaming, that I know a felt back then. A new generation of consoles, a then short term NFL exclusive license, the positives about last gen Madden 2005 and the general perception that new consoles equate to some revolutionary advances.

On the other hand, we have M12, which has some stellar visuals but when compared with 7 years of expectations, they often aren't perceived that way. So I don't think graphically M06 can hold a candle to M12 but I can definitely agree and understand with anyone having that perception.

I fully agree with the OP and Roadman about custom camera options for gameplay. However, I also want some default views on specific settings, like for "Classic" and "Simulation". I don't understand how any of us can claim to want a NFL simulation or any team sport simulation video game while continuing to support these "board game" gameplay views. For a better representation of basic NFL football parameters, short of giving us VR suits and helmets, there needs to be some player position vision limitations using field level gameplay views.

The main problem most people seem to have with the game in online ranked is "cheese"/program exploits that Users perform. Limiting the Users field view based on the player they are controlling would realistically regulate User actions through in game risk/reward.

          My bad for ranting OP.

I love the cameras this year on Madden 12. It's one of the things they got exactly right. I would like to see more gameplay cameras though, maybe a lower cam.

Re: Madden 13 Camera & graphics

Well, as far as pre play snap there is something special about a close cam that makes you feel like you there at the line ready to snap. But I was speaking more about the field, textures, and it just looks cleaner. madden started looking very water color like and the colors often more cartoon like as the years progressed. I know the animations, features, player models(shape), etc have slowly gotten better. I was speaking purely on shading and texture, etc. I really like the Madden zoom cam from 2010 for post snap.

But if you compare madden 2010 or 2011 zoom cam to madden 06's pre snap cam, you can easily see IMO the graphics(speaking shading, textures, colors, detail, and jaggies have def went backwards. The question is why? Did they have to do it to account for referee's, extra sideline players, crowd changes, etc? Honestly, I liked the shading better in 06, just need Madden 12's models, faces, new player access, animations, etc and IMO it would be a much better game.

I guess there was just a lot to Madden 12 that really let me down graphically. I really didn't like it at all.

If some of you remember, I created the ps3 thread about grass, and thanks to many people providing photos and videos with me, we were able to get a patch. That's great, but these fields still look terriblel. I know some think its just a field, but its extremely important to a lot of people. The game has to look real. MLB the show, forza 4, 2k12, and other sports games make you feel like its near the real thing....but Madden just doesn't. I am speaking graphically here. Not trying to put down the game, but i guess I just wish more people stood up for expecting more on these issues and stood their ground. Im waiting for that great Madden release to come

For me Madden 12 uses a very misleading graphics engine. Sure it looks great when zoomed in extremely close on replays(and some cut scenes) but during gameplay this game is jaggy(looks under 720p resolution for starters) and its just water colored and often bad.

Wish there was a way to come together and lay down what we want as a community so perhaps EA would work on these issues like they did the ps3 grass issues.

              To be clear to everyone:
I know there a ton of issues Madden needs to work on. Im speaking from a graphics stand point alone. Remember, the art team has to do work too, so this wont take away from gameplay,etc....

for me, I'd like to see the following.

1.less jaggies(mostly ps3). nba 2k12 really cleaned there ps3 game up this year and the jaggies were a huge improvement(still bad triangle head/hand crowds though)

2.Fix those fields. There just bad. I know some stadiums in real like have blotches, but they still look like grass. Madden 12 looks like a 14 year old smeared water coloring on some of those fields. Its just bad and makes the game look terrible at times.

3.Custom cam, or give us a ton of cameras to choose from. Mainly some cool zoom cams that give some of us something fresh besides the sky cam we have this year(like ants to me) Giving us all the cams that were once in the game would be a start at least. Why take another out to give us another?

              4. The lighting is still aweful. Better then last year, but still just doesnt look right.

these are only just graphic issues/cam issues Id like to see. Not gameplay etc mentioned here. Thx

I think they daytime and night lighting looks really good this year. The bad weather lighting is what looks bad imo. Fields could always look better. As far as those cameras, I hate that fake stuff. Love what they did this year.

A custom cam probably isn't a bad idea, but making that first link's camera angle the default would make me sick with all the jerking around.

They do need more cameras. I find the default a little too far out and the zoomed too close. The NCAA 12 camera is great. Just add that as an option along with the defensive player lock camera and you would have a lot of happy campers. The code already exists too - just borrow from the NCAA team down the hallway. And NCAA should be adding the extra Madden cameras too. I don't know why they don't share some of this stuff.

The only thing I miss from Madden 06 are the ball trajectories on passes.

yeah not to go off topic but the whole passing game needs to be done over this year.

I hope they bring this back...but they wont. Just like they wont bring back fight for fumble or the Extra Point. The Extra Point has great potential, it should show highlights from each games in which you can choose the game from a list. It had potential to be great.

As long as they do it realistically. I.e. don't make my QB's head turn slow to "add challenge" while also allowing me to look off defenders, etc. (and the player AI has to respond accordingly) Also, the control scheme has to be intuitive - remember, you have 3 seconds to do ALL of that if you want a realistic pass rush. So the controls would have to be smooth, logical, and responsive.

In other words, that's much more to it than just limiting the User's field of vision - especially if the CPU can still see the "board game" view. That would be just as "arcadey" as is now since the CPU would have field hax.

As far as the OP - what I loved most is how the on-field goings on didn't get covered up by the play call screen, but got put aside so you can still watch it and still make your play call.

I liked the graphics more too - the fatigue meters, how big and bright the play art was seeing 6 plays at a time, etc.
