Are we getting new commentators this year?

honestly, if they use the same guys as last year, i won't even consider buying '13. they're far too annoying. and turning them off isn't an option because i find that it adds to the completeness of the game. i can't remember the last time i watched a game on tv that didn't have commentators.
My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

So you are basing pretty much your whole decision on whether or not they get a new commentary team? While they aren't even mediocre, this will not have any impact on whether or not I will buy the game.

It's not the commentators, it's the sound system.

Every few years there is a cycle, let's get rid of Tom Hammond, let's get rid of Collingsworth, etc......

It doesn't matter if you brought in Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, the commentating won't sound good until the sound improves in Madden.

To each his own. I turned the commentary off in 12 and was completely satisfied. I agree that good announcers add to the immersive feel, but I don't need announcers to tell me what I can see for myself. Same in real life. I can sit and watch a football game without being told what is happening.

What exactly do you mean? Do you mean the sound of the announcers voice levels compared to game is unrealistic, or the field noise or station noise? Just curious.

The overall sound technology as a whole.

Supposedly, they are transferring FIFA's sound technology over to Madden this year.

Wait, did that just imply Joe Buck was good?

Oh, boy, was waiting for that one.

I jotted down Aikman because I think he's one of the better analyst, with Aikman, is Buck, nothing more, nothing less.

It's up to the commentary "engine" to determine when and how to play something. A more robust system is going to give the developers better ways to piece together a more natural and fluid commentary system. There also needs to be better detection from the system for when to say certain things. Dramatic phrases need to be used at the appropriate times.

When the game is on the line with 30 seconds to go and it's 4th down and long, the game needs to know this and reflect it in how it plays the commentary. If you bomb it long and it goes incomplete to end the game, commentary shouldn't be melancholy or quiet. There needs to be closure. Likewise, when the game is winding down and a team is kneeling to kill the clock, that's a good time for the commentary (and the crowd!) to be aware of the situation and react accordingly.

It's not the crew it's the way they use them. They need to record enough to we could play over 1 season without turing it off. They need to talk about at least 50 players and not just at the start of the game. Last year in both my Super bowl and the probowl the crew disccussed the key to victory would be home field advantage.

Makes sense to me. I always eat better at home.

Re: Are we getting new commentators this year?

Like Roadman and others have stated, it's not reasonable to judge any of the commentators based on Madden's commentary because the developers have stated it was the system and they have allegedly changed it.

The thing I have noticed about the Madden community and maybe it's just groups of people for anything, is that many don't seem to try to see the bigger picture. Like the way many wishlists consist of things from last-gen Madden whether they are realistic or not and how people ask for things like "Fair Play" and new commentators instead of fundamental change in the way things work in Madden.

I personally believe EA has everything in-house they need to make not only the commentary but Madden as a whole more authentic and the community needs to "encourage" the developers to do so.

I'll never understand why sports fans in general despise Joe Buck. Maybe some think he's smug? Dry?

IDK what it is, but I like the combo of Buck and Aikman a lot. Obviously they cover a lot of Cowboy games, but I've never found myself irritated by Joe's commentary. Never...

Maybe I don't pay enough attention to the on-air commentary to notice his perceived flaws?
