I was someone who always controlled 32 teams and loved to edit players. That being said, franchise mode was a joke. The stat engine was broken, tons of ratings didn't even matter, the offensive line didn't matter. The whole mode was just a gimmicky, poorly functioning mode, with very little to do besides waste time editing players and setting up lineups. After wasting my time setting up teams and editing players, I would then play a game and realize the gameplay was garbage....thus all those things you'll be missing were pointless.
How can you say their going in an arcade game direction? The gameplay should be more realistic than ever and connected careers is a far more deeper, involved mode than franchise. Those features that are missing were really only important because things were broken and I needed to make changes to solve those issues. If things aren't broken this year, then there really is no need to bother with editing players or controlling every team. Obviously I don't know at this point that they won't be - but you don't know that they will be.
I don't know if madden 13 will be a good game yet; but I damn sure know madden 12 gameplay was nothing special and the franchise mode was garbage, regardless of the fact that you could edit players and control all 32 teams.
