"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
From NFL.com
"Owners voted Wednesday at the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., to adopt the postseason overtime modified sudden death format in the regular season as well. Teams now will have the opportunity to possess the ball at least once in the extra period unless the team that receives the overtime kickoff scores a touchdown on its first possession"

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
Similar thing happened to me, only I was the one that won via a field goal on the first OT possession. Seems the rules are working fine for some and not others.Comment

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
i played a game vs the cpu that went into overtime. i won the coin toss and chose to recieve. i drove the ball down the field, running clock so there were about 30 seconds left in the game, then kicked a field goal. i then kicked off to the cpu, and they had roughly 20 seconds left to go 80 yards. everything is good until this point, as per the new ot rules.
then they proceeded to run a draw play, and i was like, "wtf are they doing?"
the clock expired, i was up by 3 points, AND THE GAME WENT INTO OT2. we switched sides of the field and the cpu retained posession. they threw a pick on the next play, so i wasn't too pissed, but damn, madden needs to fix this sh!t.Last edited by Dextronaunt; 09-02-2012, 01:14 PM.Comment

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
Are you sure? I would think the clock expiring would end the game rather than grant the other team an extra overtime period to finish their possession, but it doesn't look like there's anything about that on the NFL.com link with the explanation of the rule.Comment

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
Very good point, but in real LIfe would be impossible to kick a field goal and run the clock down the entire 15 mins of overtime and give the other team 20 seconds left, would never happen its not possible at all.Comment

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
I have no idea, maybe it varies? If it matters, I was playing my CCM offline. I actually thought about going for it but reluctantly kicked the field goal and figured I could keep them out of the endzone. I was shocked when the game just ended.Comment

Re: Overtime rules!?!?!?!?!
Guys I just want to try and help clarify this.
My first OT game was against the CPU in CCM and I won on a field goal on the first drive which disappointed me.
The second OT game I played was against a friend in play now. He kicked a field goal on the first drive, I got the ball and was stopped and lost.
My third game was online in a ranked match. I got the ball, kicked a field goal and my opponent got the ball after me. We tied and kept playing into a second OT.
My point here is the game changes to sudden death for some reason when you play the CPU in OT, but follows the rules against another person. At least from my experience.I say it every year, no matter how many people laugh at me, "The Spurs/Texans/Astros will win the championship this year!"Comment
