    Auto Sprint: OFF = Analyzed

I like to manually control my sprinting...

I turned off auto sprint and went to practice (offense only) to test it out.

Placed ball on 5 yard line and ran for 95 yards up/down and left/right all directions, viewing my guy from all angles to test it out. I noticed a couple things...

The animation basically doesnt change between holding sprint and not holding it, just maybeee the guys head tilts down a tad if any. Also most importantly is you can barely even tell a difference in the running speeds between holding sprint and not holding it. I seriously am wondering if there is even a difference at all!

So to sum this up.... Is auto sprint off: (controlling sprint manually) a feature that does absolutely nothing cause your sprinting regardless of holding RT or not and the difference is so miniscule that its like the feature wasnt even ment to be used??

NFL Fever did the best job with the Sprint button. I loved it.

    I agree, I don't see much of a difference in m13

dumb question: Did you verify that auto sprint was off? It seems that this year there has been a pattern of settings not sticking

yep, im always paranoid with that so I verified several times to make sure

And the test has been done several times.

In that case the best way to test is to capture video and play the videos side by side and compare that way and even time how long it takes each to get from point A to point B

I agree that it hard to see a difference if there even is any, but i can def feel a differnce when im trying to get the corner on an outside run.

The thing about the sprint button since auto sprint has been implemented is that when you use it, it give the a.i a boost and kinda makes them cheat.

Play with auto sprint off and hit the sprint button to watch defenders instantly disengage from blockers and make a b line towards you. On def press sprint and you will almost instantly be pancaked or blocked for the whole play. When you hit sprint special moves like juke, truck, swim, rip become less effective.

I guess they did this so people wouldnt spam sprint the whole game.

Yeah, I agree with slick589, so be careful when using sprint, especially against the CPU.

Also, Sprint can be very effective for punt and kick returns. For instance, go into practice mode to return kickoffs:

When you first catch the ball, hold down sprint and run in the direction of the subsribed play (left, right or middle) for about 10 yards, then release the sprint button and turn slightly in a different direction (for just a moment, say 2-3 yards worth)to try to redirect the oncoming traffic. Then just before the tacklers come down on you, sprint back into the general direction of the original play (so if you chose Kick Return Middle, sprint back towards the middle of the field). You will notice that you can blow by defenders who have in a sense "slowed down somewhat" to prepare themselves to make the tackle. The fact that they slow down comes from the last change of direction inputed on your controller which also led them to change direction/momentum.

It's like a game of chess you are playing with the CPU. Yes, it "cheats" in a sense to react to your move, but it is not nearly as good at cheating when you mix in changes of direction with button move presses.

Run this back about 10-20 times and let us know what you think.

I was wondering if hitting the sprint button made the defenders disengage like they had in previous games and years. Tried testing it, but have only played a couple of games and wasn't quite sure if it still happened.

I've learned to keep auto-sprint off and only hit it when I've gone past the LoS or have a decent gap that I can out run anyone.

I will have to try the kick return tactic since that's about all I'm doing right now with a backup HB.

I've never liked auto sprint, but here's a tip:

If you're having trouble running make sure you don't turbo from the jump. You have to be in the hole, and making your first step out of it in order to maximize yardage. Only time I sprint behind the LOS is if I know i'm screwed edit: and i'd be running east or west for the corner

I turn it off because I naturally hold RT so I like to think i'm holding it for a reason

Ive always felt that sprint should be renamed speed burst and should only last a few seconds. Itd be much mor appropiate in a football game.

They had that little Lightning bolt next to the name that would shrink when you were running out of turbo. And your guy would noticeably run/move/stride faster.

                            Its qued up here:
