Pass Coverage NCAA vs. Madden
Just curious as to why pass coverage would be tougher in college as suppose to the NFL. Seems like guys are passing for a tremendous about of yardage in Madden this year? Any thoughts on why this is the case? Any help with DB def. would be greatly appreciated also. I play base cover 2 man a lot in Madden and its not effective against the run nor pass... Thanks in advance

Re: Pass Coverage NCAA vs. Madden
What do you mean zones do not work? I get them to work pending my opponent. I'm not saying there are no bugs but I get them to work depending on who I play. Sometimes the game isn't broken, sometimes the other guy is just that good. Now if you are talking about playing against the cpu, well that thing cheats anyway so I wouldn't know. I've had games where I've picked people off a plenty. Then I've had games where I give up more than I want to. But guess what, that's real. Sometimes you dominate and sometimes you don't. Maybe turning up the player movement to help with the bad strafing and the man coverage hickups where guys will not move on the snap at times but other than that I don't want them going back to old Madden defense.
Also, I think what they are thinking about in the NFL is you had four 5,000 yard passers last year. You never see that in college. Now of course every defense shouldn't be the same an that may be some issue. However, they tune it I hope every defense remains distinct and players remain distinct.Comment

Since when has zone worked in NCAA13? Zone is ok in Madden, just can't sit in the same look all game and shut people down this year. There are plays that kill most zone looks and equal plays that can beat man, gotta be able to find a nice balance of both this year.Comment

I dont know cavsfan. Zones have worked for me pretty well so far. My only criticism is that in Cover 2 the safeties don't cover deep very well.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

Re: Pass Coverage NCAA vs. Madden
I am noticing that the most effective coverage seems to be man under. While I am glad to see the DBs actually playing "underneath" coverage in M13, there seems to be artificial spacing being created on other plays.
If you run a Cover 3 or even regular man (NO under) against a hitch route, go to instant replay and watch the DB not "close" on the receiver, even after seeing him comeback to the ball. In M12, if you threw a hitch route too late, it would likely be a pick or at least batted down. Now I understand that the DBs in M12 were "psychic" and in M13 they have to read and then react but the reaction is not playing out well, imo.
I really think addressing player movement is the key to all this potential in the new systems in M13 being better realized.Comment

Best way to beat a zone is to flood it. Also, obviously cover 2 is weak against multiple deep routes and cover 4 is weak against flooding the middle. As for man, certain routes work better against it, curls on off coverage and of course a streak that beats a press.
I have found that cover 2 seems to be really weak in this years game. Seems that if you don't adjust your zone coverage presnap safeties tend to ignore the sidelines or are far too slow to react to the WR. Seems like defenders tend to jump on players and pull themselves out of their area, so I try to have the D play the outside and patrol the middle myself.Comment

i definitely feel the zones are much better in NCAA 13 post patch... in madden no one passes people off and unlike NCAA , slot purple zones never go under curls and slants.Comment

CPU Safety play on Cover 2 (or any other formations where DBs press the WR) is horrific, even on All Madden
It's too the point where I have to tell myself not to call any go routes when I see the DB's pressing up because it almost always results in a huge gain or TD (just throw an outside pass once the WR gets past the DB)Last edited by mvp_status; 09-04-2012, 10:54 AM.Comment

It might be just me but I seem to always get picked deep on all-pro. I can have a player with 97 deep accuracy and welker as the wr and have a cb of 69 or 70 pick me off evry time, I dont get it I cant catch a break.NINERS FAN SINCE 96Comment
