Where did Defensive Assignments go?

I hope EA can patch this back in. There is no reason why my #5 CB is lining up on megatron in the slot. If I play man, my #1, or whoever I decide to, should play them.

Please bring this back EA.

This needs to be in it's own official "EA Patch This Back In Thread". COMPLETELY nullifies man defense when you can just move your best WR to the slot, and get favorable match-ups vs 3/4th stringers without even having a defensive counter.

I know EA wants to open up the offense/passing game, but we gotta have options to defend it, we're not all 16 yr old kids who don't even know what 'Defensive Assignments' are.

They ran out of new features for Madden 14

Yes, we need this back. I never could get it to work properly for anyone but the CB's and even then, sometimes I'd have a LB covering a WR even though I had plenty of CB's on the field. If EA can make it work properly, please bring it back.

I'm having trouble thinking of a halfway decent reason to not include defensive assignments in the game.

they automatically supposed to align with best on best, but i still have an issue. we had another thread going here...but i said what if my best cb is alot slower than the best wr?? in matchups i may wanna put my #2 or #3 on him just to close the speed gap. sometimes its better to sacrifice a lil coverage for better speed. in the end wat good is a coverage rating if the guy cant keep up with the receiver to cover him anyway.

I thought man defense looked pretty wonky in the demo. I bet they took assignments out because they couldn't make it play nice with "best on best".

but why take away user control. I may want my FS on Megatron because of his size and other atributes. I don't understand the best on best concept.

Yea I agree, I cant believe the defense in general isnt more of a major complaint. At OS it seems nobody plays real people where real issues show up! Everybody is concerned about drafting fictional rookies or fictional trades or how many times the CPU runs the ball. I guess different strokes for different folks but I cant believe in 2013 with online play 99% of the threads are about some CPU issue if franchise mode or whatever EA decided to call it this year.

Audible out Base Align in the game, your No.1 CB will line up against their No.1 Receiver.

I had 3 CBs in man coverage, one CB was guarding an empty lot, and a LB was guarding a Receiver--in Madden 13.

I also don't understand why there isn't an uproar over this. I guess there are too many people on here who don't really understand football and just want to break all the records in some fictional career with some guy they have created. Defensive assignments are essential to balancing the offense on this game. People just go four/five wide and move their top receivers all over the place and there is no way to counteract this. This is a major issue, not to mention we still have a game where the defense won't man align properly pre-snap.

guys they took this out because it was exploited by offensive players last year by flipping the play at the line. yes your corner would go to who you assigned him, but if u didnt assign each corner to a specific wr, the other corners would end up guarding wrs on the other side of the screen, all out of alignment, which made the slant out abusers prominent.
