Ping is not everything. Packet loss is a huge contributing factor also. One of the reasons I asked op if he was playing over wireless because the majority of people playing over wireless have not optimized their wireless router configuration, it could have interference from nearby routers on the same channel causing excessive retransmits of data.

What is packet loss?
Much as it sounds, if you have anything less than complete success in transmitting and receiving "packets" of data then you are experiencing this problem with your Internet connection. It can mean much slower download and upload speeds, poor quality VoIP audio, pauses with streaming media and what seems like time warping in games -- your connection may even come to a total standstill! Packet loss is a metric where anything greater than 0% should cause concern.

One thing to remember this test is from your PC to the router. It might say everything is fine however the connection from your Xbox to your router might be the problem. If you are using an ethernet connection try using another Ethernet cable (pets chewing on them, crushed by furniture etc), wireless guys check your signal strength. If you have an older router make sure your firmware is up to date. Also check to see if it is upnp compatible, if not you may have to setup port forwarding.

There was an article with awhile back with EA stating head to head matchups are P2P. Back when they had coop online those were routed through their servers.

download speed doesn't matter. ping is what you need to be looking at. i don't really play online much and when i do it's always with a friend. i'm assuming madden uses dedicated servers? can you pick a server by region? if so play in your region. has ea released any info for which ports to forward for madden? that would be worth looking into. i forwarded the ports for battlefield and play only in my region and the experience went from laggy crap to consistently great.

as i said i only really play friends online in madden. i experience bad lag when i play my buddy who lives 3,000 miles away(duh) but very little when i play my friends in town.

Yea P2P, the cheapest way to host an online game. Way to go EA. A multimillion dollar company can't even scrape up enough pennies to have dedicated servers for its fanbase to play realiable, online games on. Thank you EA. You have made your point loud and clear. You hate us, your customers.

Man, I'm bout to write my congressman or something so they can look at this whole EA monopoly on NFL football video games. I mean they (congress) be all up in steroids in baseball, cycling, etc.
