I need defensive help, it's so horrible.....

I can score by the buckedload most games, but for the life of me I can't stop anybody's offense. Sure I'll get a lucky pick here and there, but to stop a drive (especially a hurry-up) is almost impossible. Man coverage doesn't work, players don't cover their proper zones.....It's not like I'm a newb at Madden, I've been playing it since the very first one came out for PCs eons ago....to the Genesis/SNES era all the way to now. Never have I had this trouble with defense. Anyone care to give me a clue? I'd sure appreciate it....thanks!

What team are you using? I've had a lot of success running man defense with my CCM 49ers. I noticed that for man to work you want fast CB's that can keep up. Also, make sure they have good MCV and PRS ratings. I don't blitz often and with the safeties helping over the top I'm hard to beat.

It's just the way Madden plays this year. It's very offensive heavy. Best thing to do is run two man under until they get into your redzone then switch to zone (Cover 2 sink, or Cover 4 always control the MLB) and hope you get a pick in the redzone. Outside of that there is no real sim way to stop a good player. You have to start dropping DEs into coverage and/or nano blitz.

You have to remember that you're not playing a real game of football. Your opponent will run the same plays 3 times in a quarter, pass 80% of the time, random hurry up offenses and go for it on 4th down. Either you can play a real defense or a cheesy type defense.

I'm assuming you're talking about online, and since I don't really play online I can't be of much help.

Been an Eagles fan for about 31 years......so that's the team I use...always. DRC and Nnmandi should be able to cover just about anyone, but they can't....ah, it's just frustrating when you call a run blitz to the side that a run goes to, and get burned.....put your linebackers in a zone that should stop those TE passes in the middle of the field, only to have them drift so far away from their responsibility that it's just too easy...Defense is so broken online......thanks all for the responses!

Yeah, I mean as far as the hurry up have a variance of audibles. I am struggling too my nickle strong blitzes out of the 46 pb used to work as nanos used to work now Im trying too figure out 3-4 via the Ravens PB its been a struggle and my stick skill is worse cause I just picke di back up after like 9 months.

Run a lot if two man under using a team that has fast cornerbacks and you'll be good.

It's all in who you control on defense. If your run blitzes aren't stopping outside runs, are they blitzes with man coverage? I was having the same trouble against someone online and he was burning me with outside runs, so I started calling blitzes (or sometimes didn't even need to be a blitz) that had people in a zone out to the flats while I controlled a MLB that just broke whichever direction the RB headed at the snap. Had much more success stopping the run that way. Corner blitzes can help as well, but obviously if they end up passing there's more of a risk there.

If your opponent is constantly going to TEs over the middle and you find that the CPU isn't doing a sufficient job of keeping the linebackers in their assigned zones, take matters into your own hands. After a couple failed attempts and picks, your opponent will have to start deviating from his money plays and force other passes which lead to more mistakes.

One of my favorite things in this game is when I start out getting smoked by somebody, but then I pick up on their playcalling habits and figure out how to counter them. It's beautiful then watching their whole offense fall apart. Then they start getting overzealous on defense due to how frustrated they are... Greatness.

That works for me too, helps to have good DE's to either get the sacks or push the QB up in the pocket so the DT's can get the sack.

EA has done a really poor job with this game. The new engine is garbage the play is not realistic. The CC Mode isn't even working all the way. Still in the beta stage. This is a half *** effort by EA and they are just stealing money from everyone who buys the game every year on promises it will be improved.
For one, I am done with Madden . Hope to see 2K back soon. Madden is just not fun anymore.

Played a guy who ran those corner comebacks n if I covered he dump off to fb for 8 yards was very frustrating. Then I had 10 seconds left n madden didn't let me call timeout!!! N I had two left :/ lost by two points n had ball on his 18 yard line

I was having huuuge problems on defense until I started to put real pressure on the QB by pressing the sprint button repeatedly to get my DT's to push into the pocket, which a lot of the time forces the QB to roll to either side, which in turn may cause a few things...

1. His timing is slightly affected and his throwing lane changes.

2. He drops back to far, causing the entire play to break down.

3. He steps into one of my DE's or a LB for a sack.

As far as what changes I've made to my coverages, I've learned to create "mixed" man and zone coverages to shut down certain receiving threats. I might assign the will backer to play a curl zone to help out the man coverage to that side, and sometimes I hotroute which ever LB is assigned to the FB to play the hook zone over the middle. It might give up a FB route to the flats, but I'd rather give up a short throw and come up to make a play then have to chase a deep one down. I also sometimes user the mike backer to play the intermediate middle zone just to switch it up and keep em' on their toes...
