Why is kicker awareness important and should I upgrade it or should I save up the XP for other attributes?

Re: Kicker awareness?
Re: Kicker awareness?
I am in the 2nd season with the Browns after simming the 1st season. Dawson had his KP drop to 86 and KA to 81 and I was paying him $3 mil. Granted, his AWR was an 81. But, I signed a rookie with KP of 98 and KA of 70 for 360k. He hit 2 45+ FGs in pre-season and just missed a 54 yarder with a 15 mile per hour wind in his face. Also, his AWR is 40 something.
So I dont think AWR matters. I got some good advice on here about kickers and saved myself over $2 mil.
If I control the kicks, I think he can be as dumb as a box of rocks...as long as he can kick a country mile!Comment

I agree, if you control your kicker, there is no need to ever boost AWR, in fact doing so will cost you big at contract time.
That fact and the fact that lag online has "dirted" me into missing a handful of short FG attempts leads me to this idea;
There should be an option to have the kicker, and punter for that matter, "auto-kick". You call FG and snap the ball, the kicker would kick based on his ratings. Same with KOs and Punts, you call middle or directional KO or punt and the "auto-kick" would do it based on the ratings. This could possibly be a huge boost to obtaining some "realism" within online CCMs because it may force guys to pay more for a decent kicker in terms of accuracy, and maybe even AWR.Comment

Awareness doesn't matter for user controlled playres, I think.Comment

Um... how is it "debatable" how much KPW matters? I think next to SPD and ACC, there's no attribute in this game that's more clear-cut than KPW.You gotta have Hope! (My Minnesota Vikings franchise)

Re: Kicker awareness?
If you are user controlling all that matters is power. My kicker is 98 power 70 accuracy and I rarely ever miss in my online franchise and can easily make 63 yards +
Only time I may miss is because I don't get enough power due to lag. Never cause the kick isn't accurate.
They really need to come up with a better system where it isn't so easy.Rams, Jays, Raptors, LeafsComment

Re: Kicker awareness?
You're probably right. I was more referring to different slider sets where KPW is altered. On the default set I've found you can kick 50-yard FGs with a mid-80 KPW with no problem, but once you start messing around with the sliders, you start noticing more and more of an effect.
Nate Kaeding, who has a weak leg but is accurate, is a good example. He can hit anything with default sliders, but once you lessen KPW even a little bit, you'll starting noticing those 52-yard bombs barely sneaking through the uprights.Miami Dolphins | Washington Nationals | Baltimore OriolesComment

Re: Kicker awareness?
Sliders have no effect in that regard, sorry. Sliders just give everyone a boost up or down, they don't make KPW matter more or less. If it's default, maybe you mid-80 kicker can make 50-yarders, so? The guy with 98 KPW will be able to make 64-yarders on that setting, the guy with under 80 KPW will only be able to hit it from 45 or whatever. You're probably right. If you take the slider down, that doesn't make KPW matter less. It just means that if your 85 kicker maybe just hits it from 45 now while your 98 kicker may still hit a 58-yarder.
Seriously, there's no attribute in this game whose influence is more obvious and simple than kick power. Kick power determines how far your kicker can kick it, period. Just because the kick power slider has some influence, too, doesn't change anything about that. A guy with more kick power will ALWAYS be able to make longer kicks than the guy with less. You gotta have Hope! (My Minnesota Vikings franchise)

What I'm saying is, if you're playing on the default sliders, KPW doesn't really matter because any kicker with an 80+ KPW can hit 50-55 yarders. In all my years playing Madden, I've never had a scenario where I needed to attempt a 65-yard FG, but I'm sure if you had a kicker with a 99 KPW on the default settings, you could nail it. But if you can hit FGs from 55 yards out with a guy who has an 82 KPW on the default slider settings, then no, that rating doesn't matter much.
If you lower the KPW on the sliders, then it becomes very important because those 82 KPW guys can't hit from 55 anymore.
Anyway, we're arguing semantics.Miami Dolphins | Washington Nationals | Baltimore OriolesComment
