What is the point of playing online?

So I just tried playing online with my ultimate madden team, (figured why not)

I get stomped my first 2 games playing against random people.... but i never once thought of quitting... cause i figured that if I quit I would lose anyway record wise.

Well in my 3rd game i'm actually winning 14-0... and the person im playing throws an INT to pretty much seal the victory for me.

Well I then see the message right after the INT...
..."The Connection To Your Peer Has Been Lost"

The dude seriously quit... or dash boarded i dunno.

I was cool with this until i got booted out of the game and saw my record was STILL 0-2.

That's it im done.... back to OFFLINE franchise... what the hell is the point of playing this game online if you are not 100% guaranteed the W when you actually deserve it?

How is it when your opponent quits on you are you not automatically awarded the win?

Or at the very least let me play the CPU until i actually win the game.

    Complete BS

Am I wrong this? I still have no W... do i need to try backing out of the menu?

That first W (which is the sweetest) SHOULD BE MINE

The point of playing online is to immediately remind you how awful the online community/experience is and to never make that mistake again.

Find a online league to your liking to join. OS offers all kinds with different rules etc.

The point is there are not enough threads about this. LOL

yea, pretty much any 1vs1 online game is like this nowadays. you find a specific group/community of people who aren't ridiculous and you play with them. or you risk dealing with stupid stuff like you posted.
personally, theres just too much silly cheese-playing for me to take online seriously

Go back in and check your win-lose record. I know mine never updates immediately when returning to the H2H menu after a game. I always have to go back to the main menu then back into H2H in order to see my record and points change. I bet if you check again you'll see you were credited with the W. I've played over 50 online H2H games and honestly I don't think the quitting has been that bad nor do I believe I've been cheated out of a win in the few cases somebody has actually disconnected.

Re: What is the point of playing online?

Everyone has pretty much already nailed it - find a community or a league with a like minded group of players. Doing so is literally the only reason why I even play Madden anymore. If it weren't for my online CFM with my league, I wouldn't even buy and play Madden anymore.

Lobby and offline play are both absolutely atrocious.

Hahaha, every damn year madden gets me on this. I'm like well, it sucked last year.. maybe it was improved? Nope, still you either get a cheeser or someone who quits when they go down by 14.

Re: What is the point of playing online?

Curious, what does the online record really...matter?

Did you play online because you simply wanted to play another person? Or did you play online because you wanted to make the top of the leaderboards (you won't)

What does your record being 0-2 or 1-2....even do for you?

So what, the dude quit out, ok. Nothing changes that you outplayed him and (probably) had fun up until that point in doing so.

I get it when people complain about the hijinx online when they play 100's of games and push to move up the boards....but at 3 games played and an no visible desire to climb up, I don't see why this really matters. Especially mattering to the point where you have to rage out online about it.

Well, Could be he is just frustrated about something he expected to work. 100 games or one game. It don't matter. He, like us paid 60 dollars for a product, for that money he should expect to be able to play online as advertised, and have that feature work as it is supposed to, regardless of his reason to play. That is part of what he spent his money for. As much as you don't get it why people complain, I don't get why people don't want to hear about something that doesn't work properly. It's those kind of people that would set and eat a steak that wasn't prepared properly instead of sending it back. If you bought a pack of light bulbs that didn't work, Would you take them back, or would you just set in the dark. I would think you would return them. But in this case, this product can't be returned. We are stuck with it. My point being. If you find that something don't work with anything, any product, Then shout, Yell, scream it out to the world. And vise-versa. The only thing that ever gets any thing done both good are bad is PEOPLE USING THEIR VOICE, those that don't deserve exactly what they get. And usually they are the ones that would settle for anything because they are just don't care.

                      This is correct.
If the dude quit you will get a win, period.
It doesnt always record games you win via someone quitting but it will eventually.
i thought the same thing last year the first time someone quit against me. It didnt register the win until i backed out of the online mode. Once i went back into it the win was recorded.

The point is the same reason why people participate in real life sports. The reason guys play cards, do office football pick'ems, the March Madness bracket....etc. Competition. Men love to compete. At just about anything and everything possible there is to compete in. I used to play a lot of online ranked....not to gain some level of digital importance, but because I loved playing another person and competing against them...even if it was only in a video game. Your record is a reflection of your time and energy put into that competition. It sux when you play and your willing to take your losses and earn your wins and the other guy is just a coward and there's nothing you can do about it.

Now before anyone flames me....yes, I know that's just what you get with online play but it wasn't that way on original xbox. I played just over 1,000 ranked games in Madden 05 and enjoyed probably 90% or better of them. It's a shame EA has let it turn into such a cheese fest.

I also recommend online leagues. That's all I play in now and it's a great experience.

To be fair though, when talking about online play and things like people quitting that's on the gamers not the game maker. And it's pretty well advertised that online experiences may be different. What are you expecting them to do about people quitting/dc-ing? Put in punitive measures? Then what when somebody legitimately gets disconnected? I'll take having a game end early and getting a win over the chance that I get booted and get punished in some way for that.

The thing is that in online random games you can't reasonably expect that everybody else has the same expectations as you. In those other competitions you listed you can reasonably know what general expectations are. But a random online opponent will have their own expectations that can vary from one person to another. Some people want hardcore competition, some just want casual play. Some want straight sim style others play anything-goes. Some people find it enjoyable to play a superior opponent others don't.
Set reasonable expectations for yourself and not what you want your opponents to do and the game is perfectly enjoyable, aside from the occasional griefer.

Thank you Purplerat. I stand corrected. I am not an ONline player, so I honestly don't know much about it. I was just defending someones right to complain about something they felt is not right. Nothing would ever get accomplished if people didn't voice there opinions, good and bad. That is what these forums are supposed to be about. That's why we have debates. If no one hears your silence. nothing gets done..
