Didn't know whether to post in the Madden forum or the FIFA forum so I just picked the more active one.
Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?

Its is a tossup.
The way Madden plays is juvenile with highschool level playbooks and awful AI tendencies. FIFA just has the awful AI tendencies. -
Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
I believe Madden is the hardest to pick up, but it depends on whether you know the rules of the games beforehand.
FIFA is pretty easy to get into. My nephew has been playing FIFA since he was 6-7 years old, and it is much more forgiving in terms of user errors. Madden is much less forgiving and newcomers tend to give up much faster because of that.Comment

Madden is like football for idiots. It is dumbed down beyond belief.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
I also think it depends on which sport/rules you're most familiar with in real life.
Madden's playcalling has gotten better for newcomers with Gameflow, but even that sometimes calls running plays when "pass" is selected and vice versa.
Newer FIFA games are actually a bit more challenging if you're not too familiar with proper buildups and strategies. Past FIFA titles were more forgiving of end-to-end sprints, "switch, sprint and tackle" techniques and bad passing. The last few games changed this, but the game is customizable enough that you can make it as easy or difficult to play as possible --- even more so than Madden.
Both have their fair share of quirks and frustrations. The AI is robotically unfair at times, way too brain-dead at others. FIFA has more polish, depth and personality, especially on next-gen. Both have the tendency to grow stale after long sessions. It's mostly up to what you want but I would give the edge to FIFA as it's been one of EA's better sports games. Nowhere near perfect, but nowhere near awful (IMO).Owner of URWL CAW WRESTLING: http://www.rantboard.net/Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
TBH I found FIFA harder. It IMO has the same problem as the NHL series in that the individual player controls feel about as complicated as flying an F16. The ball-fakes specifically stump me horribly.
With madden, as long as you understand the basic rules of football you can be pretty decent without touching the precision stick once.Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
IMO FIFA is the harder of the two games to learn. When playing Madden you really don't have to know anything about actual football to be successful. While in FIFA (and NHL for that matter) not have knowledge of the schemes, attacking and defending responsibilities can really hurt you.
I look at it like this, in FIFA if you take one of your middle defenders and void that spot the CPU will always get the ball into that open area. In Madden if you always leave abandon a coverage responsibility to do something else, the CPU will rarely attack that area of the field. Madden does nothing to correct bad habits/gameplans, while FIFA will force you to compensate or learn from your weakness'Moderator

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
Madden is easier. didnt realize this until I seen my 3 year old daughter playing Madden.
I put the controls on 1 button mode and it becomes that much easier.
Madden can be a bit challenging if you, as a user decide to play a sim style, and within the logical confines of football. This means running plays based on certain situations, punting when you are suppose to punt, no switch rule on defense, etc.
I do find Madden challenging because of what I just mentioned
or you can also play arcade style with Madden on the lower settings.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
This is such a subjective question its kinda impossible to answer. It depends on which sport you know more about, what types of games you usually play, how much exposure you have had to the sport in question, how quickly you grasp things. Your best bet is to download the demo's (or find older used copies of the two games) and see which one is easier for you.Comment

This question is obviously subjective. I've found here lately that the AI is so much further ahead in FIFA than Madden that it forces you to truly understand the ins and outs of the game.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
fifa is much tougher than madden. in madden u can put it on gameflow or one button and what not. on fifa there isnt these modes. u have different buttons for different shots, passes, got to make adjustments on the fly, set pieces, and other things

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
Yeah jsut the different types of dribbling, passing, and shooting makes Fifa difficult. They have all those assist you can turn off too but even with them on its tough to know which type of pass to use, then aiming.
Madden has lobs and bullets but doesnt punish you for picking the wrong one as harshly as fifa does with their passing game. if you dont do the through pass/cross pass with the corrent bumper held down you wont get as effect of a pass. same for shooting, theres so many different ways to shoot it depending on what angle and how far away you are. Madden is checkers compared to the chess of fifa. At least on default out of the box settings.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
ive played fifa 12 and fifa is alot harder.put the difficulty up from the lowest one and suddenly you aren't faster than the other team and then you have no idea what to do when you want to dribble past someone.the new running controls in madden might have a lot of options but they are not needed at all and you can just use them to add to a juke or a hesitation move, but with fifa you need to know the controls perfectly.i tried not touching anything when i was younger and ended up pissing all over myself.Comment

Re: Which is harder to learn, Madden or FIFA?
Depends on which game you know the rules of better.
Id say FIFA is easier to play because you can play it more like the real sport.
I think it's more frustrating than madden though because it's more advanced as a game and still is completely shallow. The fact you can't adjust tactics to counteract some of the horrible AI is beyond frustrating, while with madden you can play it for the game it is. I choose not to and end up being super frustrated lol
If you know the fundamentals of NFL football as well as you do normal football FIFA is the easier game overall.
If you're going in blind to both sports FIFA is also easier but you'll get better at the 'game' with Madden if that makes sense?Comment
