Carter Cleveland (or any other slow WR)

I am thinking of drafting Carter Cleveland in my CFM. He's got great ratings ... except he's and 83 spd!!!

Just curious if anyone has had success with him or any other slow WR.

    Thanks.

      Depends on your offence...

If it's kind of West Coast based (as opposed to Vertical), the guy could be great in the slot as a possession receiver or you could line him up as a flex TE...

Crossing routes /slants / screens, etc.

The key for me on this type of player is run blocking...

Makes up for the lack of speed if they can line up in the slot and handle their guy or be used to motion to the area that needs run blocking support...

I drafted Mike Evans not realizing how slow he was. Only 80 speed and 77 acceleration but he's 6'5" and has high 80's in all catching ratings. He's actually worked out a lot better than expected using him situationally and even when he gets in as a backup. Ironically he tends to get big YAC because when he comes in it's usually as a 4th WR so he ends up matched up against teams 3rd or 4th CB who he dominates with superior size and strength. I've also found him to be a nice vertical threat when I have a short field and speed isn't as much a factor.

For my CFM, I control the Bills. Stevie Johnson only has 85 speed, but he is an absolute BEAST for me. Even with that slow speed, he constantly burns defensive backs that backpedal in man coverage.

Depends on your style. I prefer the bigger, slower, posession receivers. You can still put up big numbers with them, and providing a decent play-action, push the ball down the field.

I currently have B Coleman and Martavis Brown. Both are 6'4-6'5 and around 220-225 lbs and both are mid 80's speed. They catch everything, absorb hits, break tackles, and are harder to run down than they should be. Slow is the new fast in '25.

lol 85 speed isn't really slow in Madden.

I'm a bit obsessed with speed for my WRs and TEs. 88 is the minumum for WR's for me, and 84 for TEs. A fast tight end in Madden can absolutely dominate against slower LBs and safeties.

While I prefer the tall, possession receivers, you are absolutely right about TEs. If they have any type of speed they can really dominate.
