Re: Good players getting cut
The cpu does somw crazy stuff with age abd cap issues. My first offseason I saw gore sproles and a couple other big time players cut during camp. It's weird but I guess you chalk it upto maybe they have a falling out with the coach or something. I know in my ccm the teams that cut the big name players only a couple were cap related.

Re: Good players getting cut
I can't speak for Cam and the Panthers, but I do know the 49ers have a very tight salary cap situation coming out of the 2nd season, and Frank Gore is one of those players up for an extension - one of MANY very expensive players that need to be re-signed after the 2nd season:
Colin Kaepernick, Michael Crabtree, Mike Iupati, Anthony Boone, Aldon Smith, Frank Gore, Chris Culliver, Bruce Miller, all just to name a few.
I know in my 32 man league, some of those guys are as good as gone, and to keep the few that I will be able to re-sign, I'm still going to have to drop some talent off my roster in order to accommodate.
And considering Gore's age, and the presence of guys like Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, and Marcus Lattimore... well... I can see how Gore could be cut. It's not a very unrealistic thing from that perspective.Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
This upcoming offseason will be very interesting though with Dez Bryant and Wes Welker's both hitting the open market after turning down offers from their respective teams. I am going to go after Dez hard even though I have loads of cash tied up with Wallace (who has been nothing short of a stud for me).Last edited by Armor and Sword; 01-02-2014, 11:17 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Good players getting cut
before my CCM, i went through every team and fixed a bunch of guys of guys who kept getting cut in order for their teams to keep them.
to do this, edit a player's AWR downward. not all the way but into the 40s or 50s. then cut him. then re-sign him to the same team. it'll be a for a lot less. if you dropped his AWR too low, then the automatic contract will only be a one year deal - that won't help in the long term. then re-edit his AWR back towhee it should be.
question: has anyone tried removing the salary cap? would it help?Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
Wait until you play multiple seasons. You will see so much roster turnover it's ridiculous and I'm talking about star players. N.Bowman was on the Bills and now he is on the Jags and I think there may have been another team. The re-signing logic appears to be flawed. Way too much roster turnover.Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
It's really not that out of the question, real life teams cuts star players every year. The Patriots were going to cut Adrian Wilson this year if he didn't suffer an injury, he was rated in the 90's overall. Multiple factors can affect players getting cut in the game from their age, to past production to salary cap and even coaching changes.Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
Yeah, I can see Frank Gore and Wes Welker, I mean Wes is on a new team this year because the Pats didn't want to pay him, and you see Backs over 30 have the wheels fall off super quickly these days, but a young, franchise QB, probably never...not ever. lol. Unless he chooses to move on.Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
I haven't seen too many big name players get cut, but I'm only in my second season. Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt, Tim Jennings and Dominique Rodgers Cromartie and Brooks Reed are prbly some of the biggest names that got released or not re-signed. A couple of 85+ rated LTs are on the trade block. That's about it.
But I can tell you the Panthers do have some cap problems and I could see why they cut Cam Newton. He probably has a low cap penalty, but a big cap hit. That's prbly why they didn't cut DeAngelo Williams or Jon Beason or Charles Johnson who have bigger cap hits than Cam. They all have huge cap penalties if they get cut. Maybe they should bring back Player Roles, so the CPU doesn't cut such important players. But there are definite ways to manage the cap without cutting your franchise QB. That's the one player who should never, ever get cut. Unless he's real old or not playing well.Comment

Re: Good players getting cut
Franchise type qb's, regardless of cap situation, don't get cut. At worst they get traded. The last franchise type qb that I can remember not being resigned was D.Brees. But there were extenuating circumstances for him. They drafted E.Manning #1 overall, Brees tore his labrum on the last game of the season, and his 2005 season wasn't great statistically. Brees was not the same qb in SD that he is now in NOLA.
If a team has a qb they feel is the key to their franchise they will do everything they can to make that deal happen. See 2013 Ravens. When Cam's contract is up Carolina they will make any roster move necessary to keep him.Comment
