I did the Elite pack and got Derrick Johnson.

Also packed 3 elite's from a big pack opening. Got Terron Armstead, Aqib Talib, and Cameron Hayward.

I will probably keep Talib until I get that 88ovr Joe Haden as I also packed Desmond Trufant who is an 84.

I have around $50 on my Microsoft account ... But I feel buying packs early in the year just isn't worth it since there are so few cards

It's worth it to buy them early in the year because at the beginning everything sells for so much money.

Sure you might not pack a 95 rated player because they aren't out yet but right now the focus should be building a solid grinding team and then stacking coins.

This. The player base it maybe at its highest now or will peak during the holidays. Either way between now and then is the best time to sell on auction
More people bidding, more cards and coins changing hands

I had no real strategy last year and when the most feared set dropped I had to have B_Dawk. Except I was dumb I was adding good cards to captain sets and not completing but 2 of them when it was all said and done. I spent a lot of my own money last year and won't do it again.

I decided I would fill a predominantly Eagles player team and fill in gaps where there was no viable card with what elite I would like.

So I am auctioning gold players to build my coin bank, and being frugal in auction and not uselessly adding cards to sets I might never complete.

Echo this completely. I did the same thing last year, I'm going with my all Vikings squad and filing in gaps as well. It will make it more enjoyable IMO and I'm being smarter with my coins.
