I'm not a big Star Wars person myself, but this being a Bioware developed game (even if it is by a satelite studio) and having immensley enjoyed KOTOR II I am very hyped for it.Comment

Meh
This is just EA trying to grab a piece of the MMO pie. I just don't see it comparing to competition. I would have much rather have preferred a single player KoTOR rather than setting an MMO in this storyline arc anyway.
I'll wait and see but I'm not expecting much.

Yeah, Bioware wants to do this...not EA trying to squeeze money out of some license. The guys at Bioware are awesome developers and I think they'll find a way to make this fun and viable long term.
I think I just went from 6 to midnight!

I think there are millions of gamers(I'm one of them) who like MMO's as a concept, but haven't been please with any of the actual games that have been released, who are excited that a game for us is finally coming out.
Bioware will bring story and Roleplaying to the table, making it probably the only high profile MMORPG in the MMO domain.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

If it was Bioware Vancouver I'd be far more optimistic though. Bioware's real talent lies north of the border.
I just think the Star Wars universe is incredibly hard to capture in a MMO which was the downfall of Galaxies for me- gameplay wise, Galaxies was ahead of its time. Something just didn't click with me though. Hearing the devs talk about story is nothing new- Conan was supposed to blend together a great story in an MMO and suffice to say I was not impressed.
Of course, I'm incredibly biased because I wanted a single-player KoTOR. Regardless, I'll eagerly await news. If they figured out a way to make this work, I'll absolutely be on board.Last edited by Spectre; 10-23-2008, 05:14 PM.

Yeah, I don't know how it would be possible to make the KOTOR style fit in an MMO. However, Funcom and the gang with Age of Conan were pretty much blatantly ripping off "Bioware style" storytelling in their cutscenes and dialog trees.
If there's anybody that can figure out how to do it right (and do it for more than 20 levels), it's the original developer. I've been playing their games as far back as the original Baldur's Gate, and they've always put out real quality, no matter the actual dev team. They have a way of putting a story together that really hasn't been matched across all of their released titles.
I'm optimistic-until-shown-reason-not-to-be, I think.Comment

Re: Star Wars: Old Republic
Honestly, if they could create a game where I could be a Bounty Hunter chilling in space in my spacious spaceship while watching some pod racing on my 78" flat screen HD monitor, or have a nice home to store my gear and bounties collected on a planet of my choosing, I'd be a happy gamer.
Just give me a home, a ship, and free reign in the universe with a character I customized to my liking and I'd be so excited.
And oh yeah, some large amounts of Carbonite would be great as well.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Star Wars: Old Republic
I played galaxies for a few days, I felt too restricted like there was no exploration like there was in warcraft. I liked in warcraft seeing all the different zones, I liked saving up for a mount, leveling so I could get a sword. getting rare drops, etc. I liked going to stormwind and comparing my gear with people. I also liked running quests out in the middle of strangelthorn, and running into a dude doing the same quest and group up and roll out.
do any other games encompass what i said i like? do you guys think this game will be like that?Comment

I've seen the trailer now twice at E3 (once at the EA press conference, and then once more today on a big screen at the show) and I must say holy crap what a video. Better than anything that was in any of the last 3 Star Wars films? I say yes.New E3 trailer. This thing looks GODLY. Just hope it comes to consoles.
