Doug Flutie's Maximum Football is looking like a must-buy for me this year --- not just because I fully admit to having Doug's #7 Bills jersey tucked away, either. I always try to support independent sports games when I have the chance, and it seems Canuck Play has their hearts in the right place with all the licensing, endorsements and additions.
I've supported David Winter's efforts since back in the PC Maximum-Football days, and I really felt like all the negativity/trolling from social media last year was uncalled for. MF2018 had its flaws, but the fact that serious work is being put in to improve it is very optimistic news.
Good on the developers for being honest about their efforts and not trying to overhype us like some of the vaporware football projects that came up in the last 5-10 years. There's no question that independent sports game developers are always going to have an uphill battle against big-budget juggernauts like EA, 2K and SCEA. But I appreciate the effort and the willingness to improve, and I'm sure I'll be putting my money toward something that'll create optimism toward the future of football gaming.
