DFMF 2019 is Good for Football Gaming

Doug Flutie's Maximum Football is looking like a must-buy for me this year --- not just because I fully admit to having Doug's #7 Bills jersey tucked away, either. I always try to support independent sports games when I have the chance, and it seems Canuck Play has their hearts in the right place with all the licensing, endorsements and additions.

I've supported David Winter's efforts since back in the PC Maximum-Football days, and I really felt like all the negativity/trolling from social media last year was uncalled for. MF2018 had its flaws, but the fact that serious work is being put in to improve it is very optimistic news.

Good on the developers for being honest about their efforts and not trying to overhype us like some of the vaporware football projects that came up in the last 5-10 years. There's no question that independent sports game developers are always going to have an uphill battle against big-budget juggernauts like EA, 2K and SCEA. But I appreciate the effort and the willingness to improve, and I'm sure I'll be putting my money toward something that'll create optimism toward the future of football gaming.

Agreed, I will 100% buy a copy on day one, and if it's fun to play I will buy copies for friends to spread the word and support independent sports gaming.

I agree. I have supported The Golf Club from release one, and I have been impressed with what they have done each year. Signing up as a patreon for this project was a no-brainer for me, and a preorder (if available) will done when it is open.

I really want to support this game and as much as I miss having a college football game I just can't get into a sports game without a license. I like everything I been seeing and hope the game is a hit.

Completely understand, unlicensed isn’t going to be everybody.

Unfortunately from what we have heard it’s the schools that are holding back from a licensed game returning. There are certain schools that have a hard stance on the matter and there are some that are open to it (see Maddens inclusion of a handful of team). I can you tell it’s not because EA or the licensing partners aren’t interested in doing a game.

I’m supporting this game because if the last 15 years has shown us anything it’s that competition is a good thing. I also see a passionate vision. You put enough hard work and persistence behind something like that it usually leads to great things.

Not to derail the thread, so right now it is more or less just that some schools are straight up saying no out of fear of future litigation? Would you be confident in saying the majority of schools would be willing to have a college football game back and just a few are not budging on no, or do you not have enough info there?

I don't know enough in terms of how many schools are against it. But my sense is that it's a large number.

I know I read that you will have the ability to 100% customize logos, etc.

Will there be an ability for users to "share" files similarly to how Pro Evolution Soccer handles things? Although the game is unlicensed, the community shares their creations with one another and it allows people to customize the game how they'd like.

If this is possible, it would eliminate many of the concerns many people have.

On topic: This is fantastic news for sports gaming either way. Just the ability to actually have some competition on the market will push everybody to create the best product they can.

The game will have no file share system included. However, if the console allows users to share files offline, the PS4 does, then users can always share whatever they have customized that way.
