Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
My plan for the Leafs:
Let UFAs Kerfoot, Kampf, Bunting, Simmonds, Aston Reese, Holl, Gustafsson all go.
Re-sign O'Reilly, Acciari, Samsonov (for one year if cheap).
Trade Marner
Trade Murray or buy him out if you can't dump him for a real low price (anything more than the 3rd and 7th picks we got for taking him on isn't worth it)
Go all out trying to get a star goalie (even if lots of your return for Marner gets flipped for that goalie).
Fire Keefe and most of his assistant coaches and DON'T promote from within (keep Dubas and Shanahan)
With Muzzin on LTIR, they have about 13m in space. Buy out Murray and that's now that's 17m in cap space with 7F, 6D, 1G under contract. Most of those 7F are bottom 6 guys who should all cost under 2m.
Factor in trading Marner which frees up enough cap space to add a top 6 forward, and gives you assets to flip the picks return (plus whatever else it takes like Robertson) for a star goalie.Last edited by Majingir; 05-13-2023, 08:56 AM. -

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
Dubas not coming back
I'd imagine Keefe and entire coaching staff gone too.
Giving this core a 3rd different coach, or will new GM change things up?
Adding to this, Marlies (Leafs affiliate) got rid of their coaching staff.
Big changes coming.Last edited by Majingir; 05-19-2023, 12:43 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
Sounds like Dubas leaving wasn't entirely mutual....
Shanahan wanted him back
Owners wanted him back
Dubas wanted to be back
Which led to Shanahan letting him go because Dubas didn't want to work out a deal Shanahan liked?
Or is it because of the corporate culture in MLSE where a person wanted to balance work and family life but since you're not 100% devoted to the company you're not a fit.Last edited by Majingir; 05-19-2023, 05:52 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
I remember a large chunk of the Vancouver fanbase being glad when Gillis got the axe. Sure enough, his replacement made sure Canucks fans didn't have to worry about underachieving in the playoffs after dominant regular seasons anymore!Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. But it also wouldn't surprise if it turns out his agent knows he could get more money elsewhere. It will be interesting to see where Dubas lands.
We've kind of seen how this has played out before in Toronto with Alex Anthopoulos leaving the Jays only to win a World Series later with Atlanta.Comment

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
Not too long after Leafs got rid of Dubas the reports came out that Flames were letting Treliving talk to other teams.
They've since hired Conroy as their GM.
An ironic thing is that Dubas referenced the Treliving deal with Tkachuk/Huberdeau as a kind of move he'd be open to making with the Leafs. Now you might just have the guy who did that deal in charge.
Although, that deal has worked out way better for the Panthers so....Comment

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
Patrick Roy could coach the Sens.
Pens new president, Kyle DuBas.
Nice to know they know his name.Last edited by Majingir; 06-02-2023, 01:17 PM.Comment

Re: NHL 2023 Offseason
Another lol NHL moment.
The draft is the 28th/29th, a Wednesday/Thursday.
They couldn't do it later because a Kid Rock concert pushed them to mid week.
But the NHL didn't want to have the draft the weekend prior when theres no events schedule like they always do because they're the NHL so why make sense?
I wonder how it impacts moves teams make when you have the draft literally 2 days before FA begins. And if the playoffs end in 5 games, you'll have 2 weeks between the end of the playoffs and the draft.Comment
