La campagna di Conte (FIFA 23)

Not sure how often I'll update or how this will work, but giving this a try here. Will try and do images, but it's kinda a pain, since XBox website is blocked at work. So I'll have to download to my phone and post images on there and then edit posts on my work computer.

    FIFA23 manager career.

Antonio Conte has taken over the reigns for Boca Juniors in the Argentinian Premera Division. This being Boca Juniors, expectations from the board are sky high, every single objective the board is listing as critical with Conte expected to win trophies in the Premera Division, the Copa de Primera, and also the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

So far here in April 2023, it's been a mixed bag for Boca Juniors. They started the Primera campaign with a draw versus Newell's Old Boys and then won 3 straight, all one goal games. Followed by a draw and then 5 wins in a row, putting Boca top of the table.

Mid April then brought 3 straight losses, the worst at home against league leaders Talleres 3-0.

Conte has Boca at #5 right now after 12 matches in the league and has match day #2 at home versus Always Ready in the Libertadores.

Maximiliano Gomez (#10 shirt) has been the primary scorer this season, with 8 goals in 10 matches in league, good for #4 in scoring.

      Conte's first Superclasico

Antonio Conte has coached in his first Superclasico and come out with the win. The matches against River Plate always are a great watch and have fantastic atmosphere. For Conte, he had to go into the Estadio Monumental for his first one. River Plate supporters were loud cheering on their team.

From the start, it looked like Boca Juniors were the better team. The first great chance for either team came from a fantastic long throw by Sergio Romero and even better job by Frank Fabra to keep the ball in play. He found a streaking Diego Gonzalez, who stop and cut inside. He fired but was stopped.

The rebound came right to Exequiel Zeballos. It looked like Zeballos had time to take an extra touch, but he hit it on the volley first time and hit the woodwork.

Boca opened up the scoring. After stopping a River attack, the ball came to Luis Advincula who sent cross pitch, which was fought off and headed to Sebastian Villa, who was released free on goal. Villa made no mistake, scoring on a hard low shot into the far side, giving Boca the 1-0 lead.

Boca Juniors looked like they were going to run away with the match, scoring two more times, to take a 3-0 lead. However, River Plate were not giving up.

The season is young, but Miguel Borja may just have scored the goal of the season. He received the ball, stopped, moved the ball to his right, and scored a screamer into the top right of the goal from well outside the box to put River on the scoreboard.

River kept up the pressure but weren't able to break through. Then in stoppage time they hit the cross bar. Rebound came to Advincula who cleared the ball out for a corner.

Boca comes out with a 3-1 win for Conte's first Superclasico win and definitely Conte's biggest win so far. Just one more match left until the summer transfer window opens, mid season for the Primera Division.

I have no clue about video editing, so hopefully they look okay. I'll keep working on them. Not going to do videos on all matches, just special ones.

I saved some images to Imgur but for some reason I can't get them to show up here. Not sure if I'm doing the formatting right or have the right image from Imgur.

          Copa Libertadores Knockout Round 16

Boca Juniors are out of the Libertadores. After a close first leg in Equador, just a one goal deficit to Catolica, Boca looked to be in a good position to advance.

The second leg started off well, with frontman Maxi Gomez scoring in the 19th minute. Reporters and fans were certainly perplexed when Conte appeared to have his team change to a defensive mode. Catolica ended up winning on penalties four-three.

Interviewed after the match, Antonio Conte admitted that he did not know that Libertadores works differently than in Europe. In fact, he thought Boca were going through, but in the Libertadores away goals are not in effect and there's no extra time, the teams go straight to penalties, after 90 minutes in the second leg.

            Summer 2023 Transfer Window update

The summer 2023 transfer window Boca Juniors were very active.

It is believed that a big reason for outgoing players was because of age, Boca Juniors wanted to get money for them before their skills start dropping.

Also, a big reason for players leaving was Boca needed to come into compliance with the league's rule of a maximum of 5 non-Argentine players maximum; Boca was given a pass last transfer window on the rule, since it was a short window and Conte had just been hired. While it was hard to know for sure what Boca's rationale was for who was transfered out, it is thought that Luis Advincula (Age 33) and Maximiliano Gomez (Age 26) were untouchable due to being fan favorites.

The biggest news is that Celtic paid the release clause for staring goal keeper Sergio Romero (age 36) and Boca let him leave. Consequently, Boca paid to have Augustin Rossi's loan terminated early, which should mean that he will be the starting keeper for the future.

The center defense was almost completely overhauled. Speculation is that is because of the age of the defense and needing to comply with the foreign players rule. Also, probably mostly, it was due to performance; Boca's biggest problem this season has been allowing goals on the counter.

              Copa De Primera update

After Boca's early exit from the Libertadores and unimpressive play in the league, no one saw this coming. Boca Juniors are dominant in the Copa De Primera, with it's only loss to Union, coming when Boca was playing mostly a B squad. Boca have most goals scored and least goals allowed. It's been talked about that everyone has thought Conte may be fired, but this may save him his job, should he go on and win this competition.

Maxi Gomez has been a superstar, seems like every shot is a goal. Gomez is easily top scorer for the competition, almost two goals a game average.

Copa Primera quarter win for boca

Boca are through to the Semifinals with a 4-1 win over Lanus. A pair of goals by Villa at the 23 and 37 minute marks, had people thinking Boca would ease through. But then Lanus pulled one back with Diaz scoring right before the break.

However, Boca's skipper did the leading. Ramirez isn't one of the usual scorers, but he added two, one from his foot and one from his head. Boca ended up winning by three goals.

In the other quarter finals, River Plate and Racing Club went to penalties, with a 4-3 River win. San Lorenzo also needed penalties to go through, 5-4 penalties over Union. Finally Tigre go through with a 2-1 win over Velez Sarsfield.

Boca Juniors through to the final

Boca's dreams of winning some silverware this season continue. They win 2-0 at La Bombonera comfortably over Tigre. The first goal came in just the 9th minute for the obvious source, a strike from Maxi Gomez. They took that 1 goal lead into the break.

Another half quick start gave them some insurance and they never gave it up. This time, it was a very unusual source, from a corner. Boca has scored very few goals from corners this season, but today Belmonte got his head on to a cross.

                  Boca await their final opponent.

                    Boca win!

Conte gets his first trophy. Boca beat River Plate at the Bombonera. This win was pretty special since it is Conte's first trophy and it was a win against rival River Plate. Even more special for fans, the cup final had a rare goal from one of their favorites Right Back Luis Advincula.

Conte has been on the hot seat for a while now because of Boca's showing in the league and in the Libertadores, but he did get his trophy. Boca have said he will be back next season. So this win maybe saved his job. Expectations will not likely be lessened next season, winning is what the Boca board and fans expect.

2023 Wrap-up and January transfer window preview

The big news is concerning fan favorite right-back Luis Advincula. Advincula picked up a broken toe in the dying moments of the cup final and he will be out for two months. The Peruvian player is 33 years old and he's announced he will be retiring at the end of the 2024 campaign. Certainly he will be missed by fans and the organization. Advincula's runs down the right side are pretty remarkable and he picks up quite a lot of assists for playing on the defense.

Another possible factor in his deciding to retire, he likely would not have been the starter at right-back this season, because of his diminishing skils and the emergence of 23 year old Marcelo Weigandt. It's possible that Boca will not be looking to bring in another player to play on the right side, 17 year old Fernando Alonso in the youth squad is looking promising.

Last season, one of the issues Conte had to face was a very old squad. He managed to do some selling off of those players. This season, it's not a pressing issue. He has 5 players at age 30 or above. Keeper Javier Garcia is 36 but he's the backup and 22 year old Augustin Lastra appears ready to step up and be the backup. Center Mid Diego Gonzalez is 35 but he will not be a starter. Juan Ramirez is 30. While he's not as old as the others, he was the captain most of last year. Boca do seem to have plenty of coverage if his skills start deteriorating.

In the January transfer window there was not much done with Boca. They have a solid starting XI and have good backups practically everywhere. They do have a pretty large squad, so there were youngsters getting sent out on loans to get them playing time that they would not get if they stayed at Boca.

The biggest transactions of note from the transfer window was that Boca lost two players from clubs meeting the players release clause; Juan Ramirez to Udinese and Alan Varela to Bergamo Calcio.

Re: La campagna di Conte (FIFA 23)

Boca suffer loss of two types

Boca have suffered their first loss of the Libertadores Group C matches, losing to Bragantino. No doubt, they were more focused on the Primera at the moment, they mostly had a B squad against Bragantino. They're still well situated to advance to the knockout stage.

However, the loss has come with possibly an even bigger loss. Striker Luis Vazquez went down with an injury and will be out for months. That's been a major factor this campaign for Conte, injury problems. Vazquez is not the first, or the second, but the third Striker that will be unavailable for a long period for Boca. Number one choice Maximiliano Gomez has been out for a month and won't be back for almost two more months. Second choice, Mateo Retegui won't be back for another two months as well.

Starting Right Wing Exequiel Zeballos also has missed time due to injury, but is healthy now.

That leaves 17 year old David Jaramillo as the only Striker available for Conte. Jaramillo also won't be available to play soon, as he will be joining Ettifaq FC when the transfer window opens. Conte does have a quartet of players out on loan that he could recall, but at best they would be considered 4th choice if Conte had a full healthy squad to work with.

Most likely Norberto Briasco will be recalled from loan at Hoffenheim to take over most of the starting duties.

                          Boca hold on

In the first half, it looked like Boca were going to blow out Velez Sarsfield. Belmonte scored at 17 minutes, Jaramillo added one at 23 minutes and then Maroni made it 3-0 right before the break.

Maybe Boca took their foot off the gas, maybe they put in backups too early, maybe it was Velez's pressing. But it was quickly a close encounter. Just 12 minutes into the second half, Velez had it back to a one goal match. Osario grabbed one just 6 minutes in and then he netted a second at just the 57th minute.

It really did look like they were going to level things. Right up until the end, they got good pressure inside the box. Their pressing also got them odd man rushes as well. The very last kick of the ball was right in front of Rossi, but Osario couldn't get any power on it and Rossi made the stop and Boca escape with full points on the road.

The result ends up with Boca's being on top of the Primera through 19 matches. They have a 4 point lead of second place Racing. After literally being neck and neck, with Defensa in points and goal differential, Boca have a lead with +28 differential to +23 for Racing and +24 for Defensa. Boca have the best attack in the league.

Midweek is the second match against Bragantino in the Libertadores, this one at home. Unlike last time against them, Boca are expected to have regular starting eleven. They're 4 points back from Bragantino with two to play and Boca want to win the group. The last matchday would seem to have easy wins for both of them; Boca facing 2 points Deportes Tolima and Bragantino facing 4 points Cerro Lago.

                              Boca Juniors 2024 Primera Champions!

It has happened, Antonio Conte has led Boca Juniors to win the Primera Championship. While they couldn't relax completely, there's wasn't stress for Boca, the second half they were well ahead of Huracan. Four first half goals gave them plenty of a lead, with Huracan only scoring in the 76th minute.

The fans no doubt will be happy to see long time Boca players lift the trophy. But it's extra special when it comes to Luis Advincula. The popular right-back has said this is his least season of football. As a tribute to him and for the enjoyment of fans, he picked to start the match and be the captain. And tears will be shed all over as he was the one who got to lift the cup and carry it around the Bombonera.

One slight sad note, is long time right-wing Zeballos is not part of the celebration, he just moved to Athletic Club for $47.3 Million. That will be one of the questions as the summer moves along, how many star players will move onto Europe, wanting to get better competition than Argentina can offer.
