If you would of told me Luke Weaver was gonna be getting 5 out saves as the closer for the Yankees in October even a couple months ago? I would of asked you what are you smoking.Comment

Weaver was given a lot of gifts around the strike zone at a time of the game where giving gifts looks awfully suspicious.Comment

So I was thinking about this scenario for a playoffs series, a player, probably a pitcher, pitching in a game and then, ahem, having an injury which would require for him to be replaced by a new player. How do MLB avoids abuse of this? Can it?
Which is precisely what happened with Alex Cobb. He pitched Game 1, is now "injured", allowing for him to be replaced in the roster, but could return in the WS if the Guardians advance.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Personally, I think the team should be faced with a decision. If a player is injured, you can replace his spot on the roster, but if you do he’s done for the rest of the postseason. If you want to use him again, you better keep him on the roster.

From MLB.com
Postseason roster rules
Teams submit a 26-man roster (it was 25, prior to 2020) prior to each round of the postseason comprised of postseason-eligible players. A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player.Comment

Yes, the Cleveland broadcast was talking about this tonight…Cobb’s season is done because he’s ineligible for the next round. I think that rule prevents abuse as it is.
